What's wrong with having a rev limiter chip so you don't ruin a megabucks
engine?  Nascar is also cost concious you know.  BTW, they already have
cruise control at the plate tracks -- it's called 'peddle to the metal'.  ;)

And they occasionally killed pit crew members by accident when their
rear brakes locked up on pit road. And then NASCAR instituted a pit
road speed limit...

This is not a slam on RR. It was an accident.

What does this have to do with rev limiters?  Winston cup cars do not have rev
limiters for pit road speed... they eyeball that on the tachometer (during
pre-race pace laps you'll hear drivers telling crews on the radio what RPM and
gear they're in so the crews can remind them when it's time to pit).  Now
indycars (and F1 too) have rev limiter buttons on the wheel that keep the
speeds down when in pit road.  I imagine they have top end rev limiters too.

Unless I'm mistaken, Rev limiters in WC only keep the cars from blowing up high
RPMs.
