No matter how he runs tomorrow it's in the bag.

The 50  point caucus vote would realistically mean that Jr. could only close the gap by 10
points
at the most through the 5 member panels voting.  Even if Jr. were to win tomorrow and get
ten bonus points
he would still not have enough points.

Way to go Matt..........many said you had no shot of beating Jr.
They were dead wrong.......

He's not even that lately.  If only the season had 68 races, my
preseason suprise pick, Dave Blaney, could have taken it all.  He's
finally warmed up. Well, okay, maybe if the additional 34 races were
all run on flat tracks.

It looks like Kenseth and Jr started their Sophmore Slumps after the
first half of the season.  Prior to that, I was thinking that they may
both beat Stewart's record, but they haven't done anything in the
second half.

They were talking on espn about the possibility of a tie.... sigh.  I can see
all the posts about it being scripted now, though I can't say I'd blame them.

I already mentioned this once, but I'll say it again. If Matt and Jr. are named
"co-ROY", I will never watch another NASCAR event for the rest of my life!

First I was stunned by your beauty, then I was stunned by your booty.

That would be a little extreme on your part. That was only said by one announcer. The
other (BP?) said no way, it's a done deal. He felt that MK will win it. He even
alluded to the statement jr. made, basically saying that Matt deserved the award.

Yes, and that one announcer might have been hinting at something that was being
thought behind the scenes.

Uh, ok. I think after a while you might change your mind, no? While a nice
award, it's basically meaningless. And it's no barometer of a driver's future.

Why is that so terribly out of line?  The two aren't that far apart in points -- pretty damned
close, actually.  Beyond the points standings, Junior has 2 points wins to Matt's one.  Junior is
the first rookie to win the Winston.  Junior has 2 poles to Matt's 0.  Moreover, Junior's average
start this season is 13th, with a finish of 20th.  Matt's 25th and 19th, respectively.  Matt's team
has consistency, certainly.  But only marginally moreso than Junior's.

ROTY is NOT based solely on the points standings.  I didn't realize that myself until recently... I
doubt most of us did.  While I think Matt's probably in line to take it, if the committee should
elect co-winners, I don't see how any rational person can look at ALL the stats for this season and
see it's close enough to warrant it.  Matt has more points, and one spot higher average finish.
Junior beats him on every other statistic.

No matter how it comes out, Matt and Junior both had fantastic Winston Cup debuts.

You mean like top 5's, top 10's and rookie points?

agreed, but if Matt's was slightly better, it should be rewarded as
such. There are other levels of competition where everyone wins a prize.

Another intelligent, fact based response. The only floor that got wiped was the
one DE Sr. detractors dirtied with their predictions. Dale did a fine job of
mopping up that mess.

Yes, he did.

Although, I understand he did leave an extremely soiled corner for
Rappy to wallow in all winter long.

So in 1991 when Kulwicki beat Elliott for the Winston cup series
Championship, should Nascar have said that they are co-winners, simply
becasue they were only 10 points apart?

The ROTY is based on consistancy.  The point are based on that.  3
times during the year, they are gevin bonus point based on their
placing int he series standings, and at the end of the season, the
committe sits down and gives more bonus points.  The new Winston Cup
champion will be on this committee.

There are a lot of rules involved in scoring the points in the ROTY
program.  It wouldn't make too much sence for them to decide to throw
them out the window because one driver is somewhere close to the other
in points.

But your position is biased, as you are a fan of the Earnhardt's.
