WC Roundup 1996 (Terry takes his second championship & Jeffy comes up short)

Well, it's a roundup on another NASCAR Winston Cup season, and here's my
observations on the year's end:

        1) Terry Labonte!  Can you say "Two-Time Champ"?  Yes, you can!
Terry proved that consistency and perserverance beats all-out
winning in this, his 2nd Winston Cup championship in 12 years.
If Earnhard did it to Rusty, why not Terry to Jeff?

        2) Jeff Gordon.  Nice try, son.  He showed that he could come out
of a hole this year but fell short of outdoing Cale Yarborough
by taking the championiship from way back in 43rd (Cale took
it after climbing back from 42nd in '75 or '76, I think).
Still, finishing 2nd in overall points is better than not
           showing up at all!

        3) Dale Jarrett.  Ends his best season ever, finishing 3rd in
the WC points!  I was kind of rooting for him at Atlanta, but
this is good enough for now.  Yates: stick with him!

        4) Dale Earnhardt.  Bouncing back after getting punted all over
the trioval at Talladega is quite a feat.  You and "Iron Man"
           should start a fitness club.

        5) Mark Martin.  Manages to hang on in spite of a winless season.
           Keep trying, Mark!

        6) Bobby Labonte.  Wins at Atlanta to cruise alongside brother
Terry.  Gets my "Can Do" award for trying until he got it!

        7) Bobby Hamilton.  His win at Phoenix put the Petty team and
#43 STP Pontiac back on the map!  Let's see more wins, Bob!

        8) Michael Waltrip.  Wins my "Underdog" award for upsetting the
field at C***te's Winston Select contest this May!  Let's
see the Woods Brothers back in Victory Lane and the WC points
           race next year!

        9) Johnny Benson.  Sweeps the WC Rookie field (he _WAS_ the
field!).  Like Jeffy before him, he's learning fast.  Give
him time, and he'll break through!

        10) Geoff Bodine.  Breaks through to win in his home state after
a disappointing '95 season and some rough water in his life.
Be back in Victory Lane soon, Geoff!

List of wants for the year ahead:

        1) First time points wins for Michael Waltrip, Johnny Benson,
John Andretti, Ricky Craven, and Todd Bodine.

        2) More wins for Bobby Hamilton and Geoff Bodine.

        3) A return to Victory Lane for Darrell Waltrip, Kenny Schrader,
           and Bill Elliot.

        4) An upset win for Dave Marcis, Brett Bodine, and Rick Mast.

        5) A second WC championship for Jeff Gordon, or a first for Dale
Jarrett (who could win the Winston Million on his second try,
           while he's at it).

Good show, boys!  Can't wait to see what next season brings!

Carmen (YEE-HAWLL!)

"Better than not showing up at all"???  It's better than *everybody else*
except the one who finished 1st . . . don't forget that ;)

You got that right!  Don't know how I'll handle the withdrawl . . . any
tips, anyone?

C'mon Carmen, what's the matter with you? Nothing bad, degrading, ignorant,
stooopid sounding or blatantly obvious to say about anyone? You've
definitely got the wrong newsgroup!
