What Happened to Ernie?????

Post by Vince Van De Coeveri » Mon, 22 Aug 1994 09:42:02

I just saw on the local news that Ernie hit a wall at Michigan head on
doing about 175.  They described his injuries but never said what or
how it happened.  Could some of you with better news sources fill
us in?

Looks like Earnhart was just handed another championship.  (just like
last year with Davey and Alan)

Handed another championship??? What a crock of shit! As we all have seen,
anything can happen in racing. And as an Earnhardt fan, (and a human being,
a quality lacked by some people on the net), I would rather see the
title decided on the track, NOT with a competitor in a hospital bed and
I know that's the same for Dale.  Some may forget that Dale and Davey
were hunting and fishing buddies, and Dale gave sponsorship support to
Ernie several years back when Ernie was welding seats at C***te Motor
Speedway (remember the #56 Mark Reno owned car Ernie drove with Dale
Earnhardt Chevrolet on the sides???)

I suppose Elliott was "handed" his (one) championship too because his
closest competitors had problems during that season.  Rusty flipped twice
last year, was injured, and STILL was a threat for the Cup.

***. moan, whine (the theme of the blue oval)

C'mon Ernie - hang tough and get well soon!

Read some of the other posts in this group....

I think that conclusion is premature.  DE went out early in today's race.
A few more DNFs and it's a whole different title chase.

I said somewhere else I wouldn't get in a war.  <sigh>  Oh well, the road to
hell is paved with good intentions, and all that....

Funny, but for all your complaining about how many of us aren't human beings,
you couldn't resist a dig of your own - you are certainly far above the fray,
and much better than us mere mortals, are you not?  (That would be sarcasm,
just we're on the same page.)

(BTW, you'll notice I laid off the DE fan + human being combo, which was just
like a big fat 'ol curveball.  2 reasons:  1.  no sense throwing all the DE
fans into a spin, since they're not the ones posting, and 2.  baseball's on
strike anyway.)

Thanks Craig.  This, folks, comes from one of the diehardest DE fans
around.  I'm glad one spoke up...

Naahhh.  I beg to differ on this one.  Both brand plates seem to be
equally good at this...

I was going to say 'dick', but jerk is equally as fitting.

It's funny how events like the EI crash can make the points chase seem so
insignificant. We're all praying Ernie.

I'll agree with you about hoping Ernie makes it to New York.  I'm also
sorry that this tragedy happened, but racing is a dangerous game.  Ernie's
wreck was 'just one of them deals'.  Although many of the drivers are saddened
by the wreck, 'the show must go on'.

I also disagree with you.  Who collects the cup is still very important.
Dale has his record tying seventh championship in his reach.  I had hoped
that the cup would be decided on the track, but it appears that this will
not be the case.  With DE's poor finish yesterday, there are several
drivers within striking distance of Dale's point lead.  The points battle
has been very exciting.  I'm sorry Ernie will no longer be envolved with
it, but there are several drivers that can still make the end of the season
as exciting as the first part.

My thought have been with EI the last few days, and I hope him a speedy
recovery.

I think it would be nice if we could put our driver preferences aside and
wish Ernie and his family the best.  The most important thing right now isn't
who wins the Cup, it is Ernie's health.

As a member of the NASCAR "family" I'm insulted by this posting (sorry Vince,
I call them as I see them). No one is ever "handed the Cup".  All of us
suffer the loss of a driver (Alan, Davey, Neil and all of the others that
have passed away) and I hope Ernie makes a full recovery.

Best Wishes Ernie, We all hope you get well soon!

Excuse me???  HANDED another championship.  Come on.  The man is
great.  Tell me he hasn't worked VERY hard for each and every
championship.

I am hoping you were just upset about Ernie when you made this
statement.
