Ain't ESPN great?

IBeing an old timer, Nascar fan since '61, I enjoy all the broadcast
of the races, but ESPN is really special. I was in Bristol till noon
Friday when I got sick and had to come home. Still I was able to see
qualifing Fri afternoon and then Happy hour today.
Dr. Jerry Punch came over to our table at breakfast and seem pleased
and a little surprised when I congratulated him for getting a chance
to be the main man in the booth this weekend. He couldn't understand
how I knew because it hadn't been anounced yet ( thanks Jayski ). He
is a class act. I know he will do a great job. Man that Bristol track
is really something to see.
The only advantage of having to leave is knowing I don't have to fight
the traffic Sun. 38,000 new seats and no more parking than last year.
Still I wish I could be there because with any luck at all I think RW
has a great chance to be in victory lane.

ESPN,ESPN2&TNN seem to carrie the best coverage of the races whereas CBS&ABC
just broadcast the big races because it's in there contract with NASCAR(R) so
CBS&ABC just does as little as poss.

The funniest part is that ESPN and ABC are owned by the same parent company,
and use the same broadcasting crew, but the coverage is as different as
day and night.

Mostly has to do with different (perceived) target audiences. ESPN
believes its audience is the hard core race fan; ABC because it is a
braodcast network believes its audience is a broader based less hard
core fan and consequently provides "softer" coverage (and usually more
commercials).

Yeah, ESPN, ESPN2 & TNN _are_ great at bringing us race coverage.  And
they don't "black out" races in a locale, either.  For my money, I'd
like to see the big networks just forget they ever heard about NASCAR.

Got my NASCAR? "98 Winners" page up; would appreciate a visit.  Please
sign the guestbook on the second page.  Thanks!

I agree.. but  ABC is bascially ESPN with more commercials...same
crew announcers etc.
CBS ( thank God ) only does a few races per year as per their long
standing contract
NBC doesnt do the races. So we are basically ok.  The only thing to
worry about is of course  TNN MOTOR SPORTS. But they are going to go
away slowly in my humble opinion.  Oh yes... there is TBS as a token
appearance. Just hope that Turner doesnt get in and bid the prices
up.
