Keane to Liverpool: done deal

Good acquisition. It opens the door for several forwards at Spurs,
incluiding some in the Spanish league, like Villa and even Eto'o.

Best,

Why weren't Eto'o or Villa ever serious targets for Liverpool/Benitez
if they are for Spurs/Ramos?

The general thought on the boards is that Benitez wants someone that
can be subordinate to Torres, that is not toooo "expressive" (both in
temperement and playing style) and that will play in a withdrawn role
wihtout moaning.

Liverpool's starting to look like the Valencia teams that won La Liga,
you get the sense that Benitez knows exactly what he wants even if it
is unconventional (i.e. no 'wingers', preference for workmanlike
players, etc). That might need another 2 seasons or so to come to
fruitition. Will Benitez get that time?

I doubt it. Keane has a strong personality, and he seems fearless. A
good acquisition but not as a subordinate to anybody, I would say.

He is too defensive. If he doesn't improve that, he will not win the
EPL. Putting up barriers and making everybody sweat is great, but then
you need some talent, some surprises.

Too expensive ?
Would need to play them all the time ?

That is a distortion. He used Vicente as a winger 100 % of the time,
only occasionally putting in someone like Xisco as sub on the left side.
On the right, Jorge Lopez, Rufete, or Angulo was used as a winger - so
my take was that he liked playing something like a 4-2-3-1.

His 2004 side was basically (though he rotated a lot)

Torres  Marchena Ayala  Carboni

          Baraja    Albelda

   Rufete/Angulo   Angulo/Aimar   Vicente

                 Mista (Ricardo Oliveira)

In general it was more attacking than Liverpool, though certainly
caution is part of his psyche.

That might need another 2 seasons or so to come to
