Venezuela 1 - Uruguay 0 (friendly)

at Estadio Olimpico Universitario de Caracas.

La Vinotinto extended their unbeaten streak at home with a
1-0 win versus Uruguay, who came with a young side.

Neverteheless the home side had a rather unnefective 62 %
posession in the first half, with the visitors having two
or three clear chances: a goal disallowed because of
a previous hand (20') and a great save by Angelucci,
our keeper (35').

Then Ricardo Paez (son of the DT) took a free kick
from 22 metres from the left (49'):  the uruguayan
keeper bounced the ball and incredibly, the same Paez
was there to put the ball past him; a play which seem
to have been in slow motion to me.

A 18.000 crowd was really enthusiastic chanting
after the game:

Germany 2006, Germany 2006 !!!

with their right to have a dream ;-)

And why not ?

Regards,

Juan Vazquez.

Oops, the free kick was taken by midfielder Miky Mea,
but I think I heard through the radio that it was taken
by Paez, because if you ask me if I saw it, well...
at this stadium, with the athletics track, the stands far from
the track and myself up there, almost in the last row,
what I saw was these little ants in funny shorts ;-)

I guess we can say that Venezuela is a long but not impossible shot to '06.

Used to be that there was no way it could happen.

LOL.

Well, he's called here by his two surnames: Mea Vitali,
but as most rss'ers wouldn't care about the spanish word
"mea" (pee), I didn't quote his second surname.

Miky spent last year with Lleida of spanish second division,
which were relegated and his brother Rafael, a defender also
with the venezuelan side is playing for Waldhoff Mannheim
of Germany.

Midfielder Urdaneta and 10 is also playing for
Manheim.

What! On the strength of a friendly. There's more chance of Bournemouth
winning the FAC.
