>Why didn't Rai play against the USA?
>Why didn't he start against Holland?
>Is it because Parreira wanted a strong offensive lineup and he thought
>he could do better than Rai? Who replaced Rai?
>P.S. Who replace Rai? How well do you think this replacement played.
>Why did Parreira put Rai in with 10 minutes left in the Holland game?
Rai was replaced by Mazinho, who is more combative and less of a playmaker,
but at least he participates, something Rai hasn't been doing for some time.
It's a known fact that Brazil has a decently balanced team overall, but lacks
a mid-field playmaker, which is ironically the position Brazilians were most
famous for (Pele, Zico, Socrates).
I believe Rai subbed Mazinho at that point for two reasons. First, Mazinho
already had a yellow card from the match against the US and Parreira didn't
want to risk being without him for the next game. Second, the score was still
2-2 and there was a pretty good chance at that point of the game to would go
to overtime, and a pair of fresh legs would help. 10 minutes worth of warmup
would allow him to peak early in the overtime. He might be in the lineup
