Real Madrid - Galatasaray [R]

Real Madrid lead 2-0 at half time.

There is an air of inevitability to the proceedings so far. Galatasaray actually playing quite well, creating chances but not coverting them. Drogba does well to turn his marker but baloons the shot, Eboue does well to get into a position but shoots straight at the keeper...

...at the other end, GS gift RM two soft goals, Eboue letting C-Ron break away from him for the first and for the second a double howler, the somewhat dimunitive defence first  failing to clear a tame cross and then leaving Benezema unmarked for a soft tap in.

Just to add to the inevitable misfortune, Benzema should have had a red card before he scored for a high challenge and GS were denied a clear penalty when Khadeira appeared to have velcro hands in the box. Typical GS in Europe stuff, really.

On the first half balance of play we looked "good" for a goal but Terim has started the second half by taking off the admittedly disappointing Sneijder for Gokhan Zan, a defender, so either it's a blatant attempt at limiting the damage to 2-0 or some kind of tactical masterstroke which I will be raving about on here at full time.

real madrid 3 - galatasaray 0

real madrid dominated the game with ease from start to the very end. galatasaray never looked to threaten. it was a good run for them but this was the final stop where they get off.

Oh dear, well, the Gokhan Zan for Sneijder change wasn't the tactical masterstroke I was dreaming it might have been and was in fact just an attempt to reduce the deficit - as if we were in any doubt!

I feel for Terim, because the defence really let him down today, having conceded those two soft first half goals he was forced into making this difficult decision - continue attacking perhaps score one goal at the expense of shipping another two, or close down and try to keep the score down enough to give yourself half a chance in the second leg?

As it turned out, what looked like the pragmatic option didn't work out, Higuain headed in from a free kick to make things 3-0 and to leave GS needing a small miracle in the second leg.

And to make things even better, top scorer Burak Yilmaz will miss the second leg after picking up a yellow card for an admittedly theatrical looking dive in the box - although, ironically, the replay proved he was actually fouled. You can't blame the referee when you lose 3-0 but this really was a game where we didn't get the breaks in terms of the officiating.

Score prediction for the second leg?

Galatasaray 5 - Real Madrid 0 (!!!)

Was that the official antu.com (Fenerbahce supporters site, for those not educated) match report you just quoted? Seriously, try to be impartial.

Real Madrid did not dominate "with ease" from the start. Galatasaray had the better possession and good chances in the first half, the Sky Sports (English) commentary team, for instance, seemed sure we would score at some point. Our mistake was to gift Real two first half goals with defensive blunders. Our incompetence in defence distorted the scoreline.

In the second half Real were very much on top, but Terim's replacement of Sneijder (AMC) with Gokhan Zan (Defender) at halftime set out a change in tactical emphasis from attacking to a more defensive style which was bound to allow the home side more opportunities.

c'mon man, i don't care about that loser website (antu) and i am being impartial as with other games.. i actually wanted to see galatasaray do good in this game, believe it or not. you are being a fan here. aside from eboue's shot inside the box, galatasaray never came close to scoring. real madrid played "with ease" throughout the game and reading "galatasaray having the better possession", i wonder what your definition of "better" is..

as for the gokhan zan - sneijder switch, i think he tried to switch to a 3-5-2 trying to push eboue and riera up the flanks but then again, it didn't work out and i agree it wasn't the sharpest of ideas one can come up with..

if it makes you feel better, i don't think fener could do any better in this game.. hell, i don't think they will do any better even against lazio tomorrow, that is, if they don't get suspended because of fan trouble again..

It's a shame... Benzema should have been sent off for a high foot like Nani
on Eboue but you know what, and I'm going to sound boring... and annoyingly
repetitive...

NOTHING GIVEN, well *** me, that's INCONSISTENT

I must stop this, nobody cares...

If it was "like Nani" then no card was justified.

Yes, but where's the consistency, a similar scenario with Madrid being 1-0
up at home too... it would have been a different game undoubtedly if he was
sent off!!!

Foot raised in the air, hit Eboue, was dangerous... not even a card, Benzema
went on to score not too long after. Now if this referee was in charge at
United v Madrid, we'd have had no drama what so ever!!!

Rubbish UEFA
