OK, unless I'm missing something, the UPT gods are the most badass of all
sports gods. Or at least the biggest jerks.

Did they just, against all odds and common sense, just set up milivella x
Futbolmetrix (in Tier 4) and The Scrutineer x Cl ment (in Tier 3) next
season?

FT Col n 2-1 Velez Sarsfield. Winning goal scored at the 90'+2 mark.

More on milivella's epic round (and season) report. Unless I'm missing
something.

You laugh, but I would be worried about the state of the Catholic Church
and its 1.2 billion followers if I were you. I mean, how do you expect
to handle all of the Church's problems if you can't even buy a win for
poor San Lorenzo? They just don't make popes today like they used to...

Next UPT season will be fun. I almost don't mind about this weekend's
results.

Final results and comments.

Tier 1
------

               Diabolik 0-1 Jesus Petry
Independiente Rivadavia     Deportivo Merlo
                        31' Gomex
(2013.04.14 18:30)

            Mark 0-0 Betty Boop
Atletico Tucuman     Boca Unidos
(2013.04.14 20:00)

Jesus Petry 6 3 3 0   8  1  +7  9

Diabolik    5 1 3 2   7  9  -2  5
---------------------------------
Betty Boop  6 0 4 2   4  7  -3  4

Jesus is the deserving champion. Congratulations! BTW, he's really closing
on Futbolmetrix in the RSS Hall of Fame:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AgU9XwgMT4SkdG43NVlmOTBi...
So Jesus' latest five seasons were:
14: wins the championship
15: wins the championship
16: despite being the ueber-favourite (also because he had two Advantages),
loses four matches and is relegated
17: gets immediately back to Tier 1
18: wins the championship, losing no matches and conceding just one goal
What a rollercoaster.

Betty goes down, but she just leaves room to another bot, as a matter of
fact...

Tier 2
------

Werner Pichler 2-1 Homer Simpson
         Colon     Velez Sarsfield
               04' Rescaldani
      Urribari 58'
      Curuchet 92'
(2013.04.14 19:10)

         MH 1-4 Abubakr
San Lorenzo     Racing Club
   Villalba 07'
            11' Zuculini
            39' Zuculini
            64' de Paul
            76' Vietto
(2013.04.13 21:10)

Player         M W D L 3GF GA 2GD 1P

MH             6 2 2 2   9 11  -2  6
------------------------------------
Werner Pichler 6 2 1 3   9  9   0  5

...Homer is promoted. Never relegated, he finally reaches the top tier. But
his loss to Werner had given MH the chance to overcome him, and the latter
was ahead after just 7 minutes... Or, if you want to look it from a
different perspective: Werner won and so surpasses Abubakr, but the latter
managed to overcome an early goal against and finished winning 4-1 away.
This means that Werner goes down despite having an even goal difference.

Tiers 3 and 4
-------------

Futbolmetrix 1-4 The Doctor

 Joachim Parsch 1-2 Lleo
Velez Sarsfield     Colon
     Rescaldani 04'
                58' Urribari
                92' Curuchet

milivella      6 2 1 3   6  9  -3  5

Clement said it perfectly: 10 minutes in the second half of the very last
match, the UPT gods decided to turn their heads to the bottom tiers, and
boy, they must like historic rivalries: season 20 will see improbable
matches between Scrutineer and Clement, Futbolmetrix and milivella! Or maybe
they had decided this much earlier... how else could The Scrutineer go from
three wins in a row to three losses in a row?!

The Doctor will play in Tier 2 for the first time. Joachim (already on
holidays?) is promoted to Tier 3 after several dark seasons.

milivella was last in the whole UPT pyramid in three of his five
appearances. But now you can know the truth. It's just an erudite citation:

Believe it or not, last night I dreamt that I had to pick a person at an
underground station. He was coming back from attending a San Lorenzo match.
While there, I was explaining to another guy my theory that one's third
album/novel/whatever is the most most difficult to make. We were talking and
walking and we reached the first steps of the tunnel when the train hit me.
It carried me for many meters, then it managed to stop.

...I woke up from the coma (in the dream!) after eleven days and was very
cripple (they had to cut eleven centimeters from one of my legs). First
thing they tell me: "There's the San Lorenzo president on the phone, he
wants to tell you that he's sorry."

(this is my third UPT stint...)

Of course not because of the on-field action, since the matches against me
are just means to reach higher ends, right? So because of the off-field
taunting... well, let's start.

Don't think that your dirty trick came unnoticed. In the same week when you
put together all that drama about Fox Outside the Box copycatting, you
picked the same two teams as me, just fif*** minutes after I posted my pick
(I imagine you at your computer, waiting for my post). So you were sure that
it was totally impossible that I was promoted and you relegated... You
deserve relegation for your cowardice! (and for tying your fate to a
loser...)

After 3 rounds, The Scrutineer was running away with Tier 3 (3 wins) and I
was (I think) rock bottom in the entire pyramid. Things were shaping up in a
way that would require at least two seasons before UPT saw a Rivalry Shield
match again. But then I won the Clausura and TS lost out his following
matches.

Not to mention that I still wouldn't have been promoted, if not for El Kot
refusing to play *and* at the same time not finishing last in his Tier.

And it just happened because of a 90'+2 comeback goal on top of everything.

How crazy is UPT?

Well, me neither, but I did the homework - which helped, but is never a
guarantee anyway.

Also, I don't know how much just knowing the teams helped. The Argentinean
league is much like the Brazilian one, in that crazy things are common.

Just to give you an example, from last weekend. Boca Juniors (who you
probably know) were spanked 6-1 by some San Mart n San Juan (who
Futbolmetrix would surely tell you are not a real club). Now, that would
have been one fun game to have in UPT.

I wonder what league Mark will select for next season? Brazil? Uruguay?
Paraguay? Chile? Somewhere across the ocean?

Jesus is now first, Homer leaves Futbolmetrix and Werner behind, Sid is
leapfrogged by Doctor and reached by Joachim.

Chronicles
----------

If Clement is OK with it, I'm plagiarizing him:

(1) Jesus' latest five seasons were a rollercoaster:
14: wins the championship
15: wins the championship
16: despite being the ueber-favourite (also because he has two Advantages),
loses four matches and is relegated
17: gets immediately back to Tier 1
18: wins the championship, losing no matches and conceding just one goal

(3) Another incredible chapter in the fated Clement vs. Scrutineer's rivalry
(see season 17 chronicles). After 3 rounds, Scrutineer is running away with
Tier 3 (3 wins, 4 points advantage over the second placed player) and
Clement is bottom in Tier 4 (that will almost surely be won by Joachim,
anyway): seemingly at least two seasons will be needed before having them
playing each other again. But then the following things happen: Scrutineer
loses all three matches, Clement scores more points than anyone else in Tier
4, El Kot refuses to play but doesn't finish last, the very last match of
these Tiers is won because of a 92' comeback goal. Result: Scrutineer
remains in Tier 3, Clement is promoted to Tier 3, they play each other.
