US Cup: USA vs Mexico (disaster)

USA 2  Mexico 0, (Roy Wegerle about 5th min first goal, Thomas Dooley 26th min
second goal).  As I am just typing here the USA scores again, John Harkes in
the 36th min.  So now the US leads Mexico 3-0.  Mexico is having a disaster of
a time, while the US is really playing very well.  The US is playing so well
now that for certain they could beat the ***out of the current England team
now without a doubt.  I can't believe FIFA really ranks Mexico over Argentina,
NO WAY AT ALL.  It is early any how, but for now the US looks really good at
this point.

Hi Ivor,

I am sorry for the Mexican team, however, this is good for "futebol" fans
in the US.  The reason is simple.  US keepes winning there is more media
coverage of the soprt.  Thus more televised games, etc.
Good luck to you.

I cannot believe this either.  Maybe it is not actually true.

Or perhaps you mean a ranking based on mutual love and respect.

>Hi all,

Well, I have some disputes over the FIFA rankings.  Still, Mexico did
great in the previous Copa (finals I believe), and won their group in
the WC to advance to the second round.  Plus Mexico is very tough in
Azteca Stadium (didn't they tie the Germans there the year before the
cup?).  Given the same mix of players and the same coach while Argentina
is mixing things up, you can rationalize the rankings a little...

Mexico lost to Argentina in the '93 Copa America Final. I think Mexico's
defenders were having nightmares about Batistuta for a year after that.
It is true that Mexico won their group in the WC, but they lost to
Bulgaria because they didn't know how to kick penalties.

MORE MEDIA COVERAGE .... HA HA HA HA

ESPN DID NOT GIVE THE US TEAM THE TIME OF DAY.

IT WAS IMPORTANT THAT A BRAND NEW FAT GUY HIT THAT LITTLE
BALL WITH THE STICK HE WAS SCRATCHING HIMSELF WITH, OUT OF A
PARK WITH A FEW PEOPLE DRINKING BEER IN THE PREMISES.
AND THERE WERE MORE AND MORE FAT GUYS.

BUT SERIOUSLY BOB LEY WHEN IS ESPN GOING TO GIVE
US SOCCER FANS A COUPLE OF MINUTES ON SPORTSCENTER TO
GET UPDATED ON WHATS GOING ON?  INSTEAD WE ARE REDUCED TO
READING ACCOUNTS ON THE INTERNET AND IMAGINING WHAT IT MAY
BE LIKE.

                THANKS

Yes, SO, write ABC and tell them they did a good job.

This kind of thing makes a difference!

Do not write some ravenous ranting psycho letter, just tell them you liked the
coverage, which is a hell of a lot better than the way they cover the games here
in Canada on TSN.

I must say that better now than later, what I mean is that for a few games now
Mexico has had defensives lapses that were not capitalized by the opposition, (Chile
did and won). The problems are substantial and better be corrected or they will have
a headache in Uruguay.

Concerning the US they played a nice game but nothing outstanding, they had chances
and took care them as they should have, but they are soft in the midfield
(Dooley and Sorber are good at gaining the ball back) neither Reyna nor Jones are
the kind of midfielders to create play (I think Ramos and Koplas are better suited
for this).

Lastly concerning the Copa America, I must say the favorite has to be Brazil after
seeing them play England and Sweden. Argentina is a team in crisis in my opinion
trying to find an identity, they have strugled, I saw them play Peru and South
Africa and was not impressed (even thought they won and tie respectively). Uruguay
is an enigma. Chile beat Mexico but then lost to Peru in a disaster. Peru beat Chile
but them lost to Uruguay and Argentina. Ecuador did not fair that well in their
tour of Asia and finally I don't know how well Paraguay and Bolivia have done in the
recent past.

We will see thought and hope that the USA has good performances down in Uruguay.

Miguel.
