ARG-MEX: Best match of tournament so far

I feel for Mexico, and they did exit WC as proud warriors. Unlike
Sweden. Great match. With ARG advancing, Klinsmann in trouble...

Everything on the line, a terrific winning goal, both teams playing
with spirit ... but for me, a good match, not a great one. Great first
ten minutes, great 98th minute, some sporadic excellence at other
times ... I'm not complaining. But I hope there are even better
matches to come.

Germany vs Argentina, the undisputed match of the
tournament coming up. The winner will probably win the
whole thing, unless it gets spent winning it.

Just hoping for fair refereeing for this match, or at least
one that will not decide the match.

Let's not overrate the Argentinian win. After all Mexico was only 2nd
in the qualification group behind soccer juggernaut U.S.A. .... (=
3rd-rate soccer power).

I didn't really think it was a great match, much of it was quite
boring, defensive, almost anti-football.

I'd say take their first half, minus the Borgetti pre-programmed
head putting crosses into goal, even his own, and you have
probably as good a 45 minutes from Mexico as EVER! They
challenged Argentina for the midfield and won, which is saying
a lot!!!

What it might be saying is that Argentina have been overrated since
their 6-0 drubbing of S&M.

Blame FIFA scheduling partly for that. Argentina had 2 days rest
between their final group game and this match, and I am not
sure how they managed to play out 120 minutes while
constantly chasing the ball.

As I have said many times before, Pekerman's Argentina
is a Riquelme-centric team like Beckham and England.
Both teams have the personnel to vary their play, but
are held within rigid guidelines by the coach. So Riquelme
had a very poor game, I was not counting but the weight
of his passing was completely off thus turning the ball
over repeatedly to the Mexicans. This put great strain
on the midfield and neither Maxi nor Sorin could join in
the attack with the felicity when Roman is on his game.

I can never understand why Scaloni is playing for Argentina,
to me he is an extremely average player who is not even
tactically as disciplined as Burdisso, who at least covers
his side well. Scaloni frequently ventured forward and
turned the ball over or delivered a poor cross, thus putting
extra pressure on the midfield. It looks like Pekerman
advised him to do so, which would explain why Maxi
was mostly playing on the left in the first half.

I think some of the poor play and turnovers must be
attributed to tiredness. The players were just a fraction
of a second late to every ball, and were constantly
losing balance when turned. Pekerman made a big
tactical mistake by not resting his midfield in the
game against Holland. His fondness for Riquelme
almost cost Argentina in this match.

That can't be right. If we won the group how come we got the grupo de
muerte and they got two patises??????

No, it was a great match. Anytime the diving, whining, faking, cheating
cunts lose it's a great day.

IMHO there are an awful lot of posters here who know very little about
Football and, judging by some of tonights comments haven`t taken the time
required (inc experience ) to learn about systems of play and adaptability
to any given scenario viz a viz type of opposition and
circumstances..there`s a world of difference between Group games where your
aim is qualifying to the KO stage and not neccessarily winning or even
winning in style and the high pressure and yes even fear of losing in what
is sudden death, lose and you`re on your way home, unless you are German of
course ;-)
Tonights game was a wonderful advert for Football and the World Cup it had
every thing a fan could want to see in a game.As for tension if you didn`t
feel it just by watching, don`t bother to watch Football again because you
never will have that knowledge and feel for the game.
If anyone was surprised by the Brave heart display by the Mexican team
perhaps I should remind those I have referred to that in their last
competitve game the Con FEd Cup they drew 1-1 went through extra time and
then Penalties which Argentina won 6-5! It was always going to be a close
call tonight but Argentina just had that little bit more class and reserves
when needed.A game for the neutrals to savour, the Argentinians "Elation" and
the Mexicanos "Pride!"

No I don't think so, they came out in the second half
won back the midfield, and dictated the pace. Very
smart if you ask me. And watch that Rodriguez goal,
because it's a thing of absolute beauty: perfect pass
across the field, followed by no-look turn shot, perfectly
placed from ouside corner of penalty area, without the ball
even touching the ground.

Ugh, speaking of PLONK, enough. You are a blowhard, that just spreads
invective, and arrogant nonsense on this newsgroup.

You're not even a proper trollinho. You're just a Kerl.

Agreed. Worst match by Argentina in this WC

The only stunning display was against S&M, who were hardly the
strongest opponents. I'm afraid people have got carried away and
started making all sorts of silly statements. Yes, the Argentina
team is very good, but the first half of tonight's match showed
that a half-decent team can make things very difficult for them.
