*****************************************************************
Group Phase (two qualify from each group):

  Group 4
 Pe?arol (Montevideo-URU) 3-0 Deportes Iquique (CHL)
[Sebastin Gallegos 39' (FK), Marcelo Zalayeta 75', Matas
   Aguirregaray 77']
Gallegos' free kick took a deflection (maybe at Zalayeta) and
wrongfooted Naranjo. Zalayeta completed a low cross and shortly
after Aguirregaray pushed in a rebound from a Olivera header to
give Pe?arol the score they needed to qualify if Vlez won,
  but...
 Vlez Sarsfield (Buenos Aires-ARG) 0-0 Emelec (Guayaquil-ECU)
  No cigar.
   Final Standings:
  VLEZ SARSFIELD  13
  EMELEC           10
  Pe?arol           9
  Iquique           3

  Group 2
 Tigre (Victoria-ARG) 3-1 Sporting Cristal (Lima-PER)
[Leandro Leguizamn 24', Matas Prez 49', Rubn Botta 54' -
   Carlos Lobatn 71']
Leguizamn beat a defender to a long ball and slipped it past
Penny. Two headers won in Tigre's attack put Prez through to
double the lead, and after a stolen ball from the defence,
Botta dribbled past a defender before scoring a nice third.
Cristal, who were down to ten men by then, scored a nice
  consolation goal through Lobatn.
Standings: Libertad (PAR) 8 [played 4]; Palmeiras (BRA) 6 [4],
  Tigre 6 [5]; Sporting Cristal 5 [5].

  Group 6
Deportes Tolima (Ibagu-COL) 1-2 Indep. Santa Fe (Bogot-COL)
  [Yimmiy Chara 51' - Cristian Martnez Borja 61', 79']
Chara was put through and touched past Vargas, but Borja tapped
in a rebound and completed a counterattack to put Santa Fe in
  the otofinals.
Standings: Santa Fe 11 [played 5]; Tolima 7 [5], Real
  Garcilaso (PER) 7 [4]; Cerro Porte?o (PAR) 0 [4].

   Tonight

  Group 6
 Real Garcilaso (Cuzco-PER) - Cerro Porte?o (Asuncin-PAR)
  [10:45 PM GMT]
Garcilaso will be very close to qualifying if they win.

  Group 5
 Corinthians (S?o Paulo-BRA) - San Jos (Oruro-BOL)
Xolos Tijuana (MEX) - Millonarios (Bogot-COL)
  [Apr 11 1:00 AM GMT]
Corinthians and Tijuana are already through and will decide
first place probably on GD. Currently Corinthians lead +5 to
  +3 (7 goals scored each).

  Group 8
Grmio (Porto Alegre-BRA) - Fluminense (Rio de Janeiro-BRA)
  [Apr 11 1:00 AM GMT]
Fluminense would be through with a win, but you can forget
about it. They're missing Deco, Thiago Neves, Wellington Nem
and Fred. That's the whole attack and attacking midfield.

 Tchau!

Not so fast! One of Fluminense's strongest suits is their enviable depth.
The Brazilian champions will be as favored as ever!

Sorry to see a traditional outfit like Pe arol go down so soon, but they
have only themselves to blame. After a promising start (2/2), they dropped
three in a row. In the end, it was too little, too late.

Great result for Palmeiras, one of the only two Brazilian teams I want to do
well in this dreadful Libertadores. Palmeiras only need now to beat Libertad
at home to clinch a R16 spot with one round to go. Of course "only" is just
a way of speaking, as Libertad is probably the toughest side in this group.

Great result for Real Garcilaso, who should be all but qualified if they
beat 0-point Cerro Porte o. Real Garcilaso went off to a nice 2-1-0 start in
their first Libertadores appearance, before dropping a home match to Tolima.
This first defeat brought some e***ment to what should be an easy group,
but here's hoping the first timers get their act together and progress from
the group. Nothing against any other team here, I just want to see a new
team have a nice run in their tournament debut.

Vlez were actually very close to scoring a late goal, so probably no. And Emelec are good enough to get an away point and really deserved the otofinals' spot.

 Tchau!
