More slapheads. France had 7 in their 1998 team - Barthez, Thuram,
Leboeuf, Henry, Trezeguet & Zidane and the current team have just as
many. Brazil don't have as many slapheads but, crucially, players with
buck teeth. England need to strike a balance somewhere in the middle.
Crouch shaving his head would be an excellent start.

Actually, I would humbly suggest that English players addopt the
Gattuso "terrone" look. Calabria rocks!! Incidentally, even the Spanish
press has acknowledged that Gattuso is a great player. Today's El Pas
of Madrid got together a couple of coaches (Irureta, Del Bosque) to
talk about Gattuso. Both said that they would want such a player on
their teams, and that the Spanish public made a mistake in considering
him a clown. Even a week ago, this article would have been
unthinkable... I guess things have changed.

You really gotta laugh with this stuff.

Best,

SMT

LOL! I pointed out the same thing to my girlfriend yesterday while
watching the game. My head is every bit as slappy as Barthez's, so I've
decided that no matter what my Congress tells me my sympathies lie with
the French. Here's a picture of me with a bit of team paraphernalia at
my side. Points if you can identify the shield.

Friedel, Bravo, Thuram, Tofting, Gravesen... they're all my heroes.

But why THAT one, Mark? Did anyone force you to? Well, seeing as you seem to
be sleeping in this picture, I guess someone thought of playing a joke on
you by putting the hat there and going on to take the picture, yes?

Or is it something more sinister like... erm... I don't like to even suggest
it but... are you a Flamengo fan? (take no offense please)!

;-)

Wrong approach. Get the top players out of the premier league, and into
the Bundesliga. It's the only way to teach them penalties.

I learned after buying it (to prevent a bad case of slaphead churrasco
-- my other choice was a Santos hat, and my friend beat me to it) and
wearing it about that it would be a mistake to admit I was. So no
comment....! :-)

Why is Flamengo so unpopular?

Absolutely.

Forget taking Walcott, messing with the formation or not making the
best use of his substitutes. Sven's biggest mistake: taking Michael
Owen ahead of Andy Johnson.

What's the secret to the German levels of fitness? The potion Asterix
the Gaul uses? Popeye's Spinach? Big German sausages?

So what did they make of Makelele when he was at Madrid? Did the echo
the views of Perez when he said we don't need him, he can't pass the
ball more than 10 yards?

I think everyone in Spain except Real Madrid bosses realized that it
was a mistake not to renew Makelele. He was the engine of the team. The
salary differences were trivial (on the order of a few hundred thousand
a year). Likewise, it was a mistake to kick out Hierro with no
substitute in sight... Too many mistakes.

Best,
