Cathi, I think the keeper would have gotten it. Tommasi had a bad angle;
50-50 at best.

I do. Have you seen him play for Roma? He missed an easier chance in the
first half from Totti's pass.

"EPK" <...>
: You mean when Tomassi waltzed in ten minutes after everyone else had stopped
: for the whistle?  At that point in the game, he was likely to get a card for
: time wasting, I couldn't believe he was so foolish as to follow through.

My god, is *that* what they're talking about? That after the whistle tapping
the ball in? That is so...unbelievably...lame.

RstJ
it's just going to shitsville on this one.

Italians make for sore losers. Everyone knows that.

He blew a 100% chance earlier in the match when Totti put him
through.  No reason to think he would have made it.

I saw a questionable offside decision against Italy.  Didn't see a goal
as the whistle had blown and the keeper had stopped.  Tomassi had a big
grin on his face when he tucked it in the net - a readymade excuse for
failure to tuck in the pocket.

Right.  It's reasonable to think that if Tomassi knew that he was
clearly onside and his goal was legitimate, you'd think he would've
have raised hell.  But he didn't.  He just had this sheepish smile on
his face and just continued on.  So, why can't others accept it like
Tomassi did?

Yeah, and warm sympathies to the director of Peruccia for making the
difficult decision of firing Ahn after scoring the winning goal
against his great nation.
Depolarisation, mutual understanding etc. are nice, but we can't be
fluffy about everything. There is something fundamentally wrong
Italians about the way Italians approach a footballmatch and the way
they have reacted to this loss.
And that they know it.

Scored 14 goals.

Nope. Korean keeper was in good position and he didn't have ample time to
tee it up. On the breakaway he could have dribbled, or chipped, either/or
results in a goal almost 99% certainly.

...if I told you Vieri would miss a chance inside the six yard box with an
empty net...would you believe me?....truth is stranger than fiction sometimes...

Tomassi's was a goal, game over.

What are the chances of Panucci falling over at the last minutes of the
game?
What are the chances of Vieri missing that last chance?

It simply wasn't Italy's night.
No excuses. Punto e basta.

My problem is we lived the same nightmare in the final of Euro 2000.
Our run of bad luck must be over.

...so...Tomassi would have scored, even though he had the goalie to beat...
but Vieri couldn't push it into an empty net?...inside the six yard box?...

...let it go...Italy lost...end of story....

Italy can start creating own luck if they start playing in more
attacking style (instead of saying things like "one goal will be
enough" by Totti? Vieri?)

If one is enough, two is better.

If think they learnt that lesson.
I would like to see their mentality in the 2004 Euro cup.
