LOL -- you had the find the most backwater backwater of a backwater to
get this article.  How long have you been searching for something like
this?  NYT, LAT, Chicago Trib or any other major newspaper didn't give
you anything, did they?

I am very disappointed with Ale. It's almost as if I posted an article
from a minor city's newspaper in Italy, using their title, "Corrupt
Italians", and then posted that on the soc.culture.italian newsgroup.

No matter what the title of the article is, this is a provocative
header in a post here on RSS, not just in a World Cup, but at any
time.

I didn't search at all :-)
It is #4 at News Google, when searching for "USA fan world cup":
http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=us&ie=UTF-8&q=usa+fan+world+cup...

I was just looking to read some columns about USA fans at the world cup.

After my eye catched the title (and after reading that), I thought it
may be good to warm up the atmosphere :-p

On the other hand, this is closer to what I get from the average yahoo
in the street than Vecsey's reasoned analysis. In fact, it is almost
*precisely* what I got from a couple of people at the bar where I
watched the opening match.

Not universal, and we have no monopoly on stupidity, but pretending
this is an aberration is disingenuous.

Soccer/footbal/futbol must top the list of subjects that people write about
but have no interest in.

Did you read the article? I thought it was totally hilarious, and not
at all offensive (I'm English BTW).

Corrupt this in Italy,  corrupt that in Calcio.Players affected by
scandals.... that s all the guy on ESPN had to say when Italy was
playing Ghana last week.

And if you read the article, you will probably rescale your
provocativeness scale :-p

Now, this is very true.

It's also the subject we don't care what others think about, but seem
to get very angry when they express their thoughts... =)

This stupid thought is widespread, as Robbie and others on this NG
confirmed.

The thoughts in the original article are also widespread, you just have to
see who's president of the US;)
