Subject heading says it all: why has john Barnes been picked for the
squad for next week's game?  And I used to think Terry Venables was
the messiah for English football.

Good question, and one which beats me too. Barnes has had stacks of
chances to perform for England and every time has responded by playing like a
radish. I can only think that el Tel has been so impressed with the
international re-emergence of the deformed midget Beardsley, that he
fancies his chances in coaxing the best out of Barnes too. I suppose the
current good form of the scouse pickpockets might also have something to do
with the decision.

Anyway, lets hope the decision was a good'un and that the crowd get behind
Barnes. We could do with stuffing these Yanks - they're getting a bit too
big for their boots...

Well, I was at the Liverpool-Arsenal game on Sunday, and Barnes was
excellent. He played in a mainly central role and ran rings round
Arsenal's midfield.
He also looks about a stone lighter than last year.

Yeah, but he used to absolutely brilliant for Liverpool when they
were top dogs and he was still awful for England.  There are only
2 occasions that I can remember when he's played well for England:
againstv Argentina in '86 and against Brazil in '82 (?).  For
someone with his undoubted ability, this just ain't good enough.
And on a slightly more humane note, I didn't enjoy witnessing the
treatment he got at Wembly last time he played.   He's a darn
good club player who just cannot reproduce it at international
level, much like Ian Wright, in my opinion.

When David Littlewood talked about Re: Why, oh why, oh why? to REC SPORT

IMHO Barnes has never performed for England.Even when he was playing
really good stuff for Liverpool his international form was never up to
scratch.

He had a great match in the infamous England - Argentina meet during WC 86. After
entering as a substitute, he nearly made the game go into extra time with his
raids on the left side and subsequent passes to Lineker. Apart from that he's
been, well, crap.

Hi, Soccer fan

I downloaded FIFA International Soccer demo.  Though I don't know
how to configure my system (config.sys & autoexec.bat) so that I
can get it run.  Has anyone had experience with this game demo,
please give a hint.  The problem I had is "Insufficient free memory"
when I tried to run it.  What I have got so far is the first two introduction
of Electric Arts logo scences, then the error of insufficient free memory
popped up.

I tried to create a bootable disk in the hope of getting more memory
but the same problem occurred.

My flatform: IBM-comp./33, MS-DOS 6.20, VGA, 4MEG RAM.  No sound card, joystick

I notice that the system requirement of commercical Fifa Inter. Soccer software
is required 4Meg RAM (3.4 Meg xms).  I don't know how I can get 3.4 Meg xms
Please send your config suggestions...

Thank you so much for your time and help!

Try to boot up your machine and when the line 'Starting up MS-DOS' appears
hold down the left shift button until the machine has booted up, this
gives you a clean boot without any drivers and then try to run the game.
If that doesn't work make a boot disk and only have config.sys with the first
two lines (emm386 and himem) and don't have autoexec.bat on the boot disk.
