New Zealand National Summer League 1996/97 - Round 14

National team news - Last week, Keith Pritchett was sacked from the post
of coach of the All Whites (the national team).  Today, Joe McGrath was
named as his replacement.  McGrath, 53, was formerly Technical Director
of Coaching for the FA of Ireland until he came to New Zealand around a
year ago to take up the position of National Director of Coaching for
Soccer New Zealand (the NZFA).  McGrath has also been involved in the
youth teams in the last year, and has been looking ahead to the 1999
World Youth Championships which NZ will host.  He wants to take a
"holistic" approach to the national side, and thus wants to continue to
coach national teams at all levels (under-17, under-20 and Olympic
sides).

Great quote from the new man: "We've got to get past Fiji and PNG first
and you can take nobody for granted in international football.  The
Australians are so***y they're probably working on playing the
[fourth-placed] Asian team but there is many a slip between cup and
lip."

Anyway, back to league action...
