... in case anyone wants to revise their Prediction Contest
entries. :-)

I'm looking forward to these games because, frankly, I miss the days
when results were hard to come by. Since World Cup 02, the US hasn't
had a single non-Mexico result that was even mildly exciting, but if
this group were to win a game, it'd be a lot of fun. If it doesn't --
which is admittedly more likely -- at least it'll be easier to see
what we're missing. If I have one disappointment, it's that Chris
Rolfe hasn't gotten healthy enough to play. In Donovan's absence, he
would've fit in well.

By the way, Michael Bradley's absence means that he'll turn 20 with a
total of 10 caps. That's fewer than Donovan (16), Kirovski (13) and
Beasley (12) but more than Convey (7) or any other US ***ager I can
think of.

Below is an age-based comparison between our 2007 squad and our 1993
squad, which managed to avoid getting blown out and to earn a 3-3 draw
with Venezuela. Considering how young our team was back then
(especially without a few veterans), I find it interesting that this
year's crop skews even younger.

Another curiosity: of the four squad members (or five including
Keller?) who completed four years of college soccer, three were
undrafted by MLS (Conrad, DeMerit, Boswell), and the other one
(Bornstein) wasn't drafted until the fourth round.

This roster is an embarrassment to all US fans....

Why compete in sports if you don't care abut winning?

If the players on the field don't care about winning, then I'll be
concerned.

I'm actually quite e***d to see what Clark, Nguyen, Pearce, Boswell
et al can do

The US isn't alone among nations in this tournament in leaving some of
its best off the roster.

Keep in mind, too, that the US is just finishing a tournament-long
Gold Cup run. Their European-based players probably ought to be rested
for their clubs just a bit in the off-season, and the MLS players will
have just been taken away from their teams for awhile.

Yeah, it's probably the best we could have done considering the
situation. I'm surprised to see 5 MLS players playing both
tournaments. Davies scored for Hammarby today in the Intertoto, so at
least we're not sending a striker with zero career professional
goals :)
