Asian Games Football, results of 1 October 1994

It's a bit late, but here are the results and some comments of the
matches of the first day of the Asian Games Football Competition
(1 October). I will post the results of the second day separately.

There are quite a few matches I have no information on, but I noted
other people are filling the gaps as well :-)

 A  Turkmenistan   - China          2 - 2 (16:00, Koikikoen Stadium)
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
(h1) 5. Nourmouradov 1-0, 10?. Gao Feng 1-1,
(h2) 24. Cao Zhongxun 1-2 (PK), 43. Seidiev 2-2 (PK).

A singular display of bad organisation by the Turkmenis, as half their
team (including both goalkeepers) was stuck in Moscow and couldn't
play. So they took on China with just 11 players (in other words,
no-one on the bench!) and a goalkeeper who is normally a forward, and
even so managed a draw.

 A  Yemen          - Bahrain        0 - 2 (19:00, Koikikoen Stadium)
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

 B  Saudi Arabia   - Uzbekistan     1 - 4 (16:00, Hiroshima Stadium)
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
(h1) 14. Lebedev 0-1, 18?. Kosvmov 0-2, 25. Shkryvin 0-3,
43. Shkryvin 0-4, (h2) 44. Al-Johani 1-4.

The Saudis, who played in the World Cup in June, are apparently not
taking this tournament seriously and basically sent an under-23 squad
with the addition of just a couple of experienced players. They're
obviously not favoured to take the cup anymore.

 B  Malaysia       - Hong Kong      4 - 3 (19:00, Hiroshima Stadium)
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

 C  South Korea    - Nepal         11 - 0 (19:00, Bingo)
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Goals: Hwang Sun Hong (8), Ha Seok Ju (2), Ko Jeong Woon

South Korea's coach termed their team's opening match a "practice
game" and didn't field his strongest lineup, only :-) to see his squad
crush the Nepalese in double figures. Hong scored no less than 8 goals
(is this a world record in a serious international match?) and is
already a shoo-in for tournament top scorer, I'd say.

 C  Kuwait         - Oman           2 - 2 (19:00, Miyoshi)
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Cheers,

Eric.
