Four players retire from Danish side

Along with assistent coach Michael Laudrup, who's returning to coach
former club Br?ndby, four players have decided to step down from the
national team. While it was expected that 39 year old Jan Heintze
would step down, and hardly surprising to see 35 year old keeper Peter
Kj?r and 33 year old for-the-sake-of-argument football player Brian
S*** Nielsen, the international retirement of hard tackling
midfielder Stig T?fting, 32, came as a surprise to many. Apparently he
decided to retire from the national team 6 months ago, but was talked
into continuing by Morten Olsen.

Replacing the four will definately be Niclas Jensen of Manchester City
(for Jan Heintze) and Christian Poulsen of Schalke 04 (for T?fting). I
actually don't see that as a weakening of the Danish side. Poulsen
showed his class against France, and it won't be the first time he's
been thrown in early in his career to take over from a fabled midfield
figure. In his first season at FC Copenhagen he took over the midfield
spot from St?le Solbakken, after Solbakken dropped dead during
training (he got better). Niclas Jensen already played Heintze off the
side during this WC, and next season he'll have a chance to test
himself against some of the best players the Premiership has. I'm
certain he's looking forward to meeting David Beckham again...

As for Kj?r and S*** Nielsen, best guesses goes to Viborg's Thomas
Frandsen replacing Nielsen and Ranger's Jesper Christiansen moving up
a slot from third keeper to second, although only if he can find
regular playing time, either at Rangers or a new club. If not, someone
like AB's Jan Hoffman could take over instead.

David.
Now we'll see if Henke Larsson is the only Swedish player to retire
from the Sweden team...

Can't Svensson play right wing? Svensson on the right, Djordjic or
Jonsson on the left, K?llstr?m as the creator.

Any chance of Antonelius getting a shot at right back?

David.
