Betting advice, s'il vous plait

Yes, the bug has bit me and it's not even ***.

The problem is, I don't know how to go about betting on soccer (EPL or WC).
I'm going to the most reputable online punting shop, William Hill. Other
than that, I haven't a clue about margin calls, teasers and two potato four.

Does anyone have some good tips for a rank gambler newbie such as my sorry
ass?

Betting terms, oddsmaking, good sites, or if you want to dissuade me based
on your experiences, we could use a laugh, I mean! I would be grateful for
your advice. :)

Beware any tips you take from Luke. Its a sad story but i`ll tell you
any way. I met Luke in a bar, it wasn`t a pick up. I was down on my
luck overtime cut at work and wife and 5 kids to keep.
There was Luke sitting at the bar counting a handful of notes, anyway
we got talking. He told me he had a system " FILL YOUR BOOTS" is a
phrase i remember him using often. I have since had to sell my boots.
No tips that i have recieved from Luke have made me rich !!! All his
tips are duds, he couldn`t pick the first donkey home on Blackpool
beach. To make matters worse the money he was counting was from the
overtime that i should have been doing, he was crossing my name off
the list. He is a doublecrosser and what really finished me off was
i had been had over by a SPURS fan can you believe it.
But if you do get any tips Victoria please pass them on as its cold
here and i want to buy another log for the fire.

Take it slowly and treat it as fun. You won't beat one bookmaker, but if you
are prepared to do the research etc in a quest to win, you will need to shop
for better prices etc by comparing bookies.

Stick to lower % markets (match result, under-over 2.5 goals etc) rather
than correct scores, first goalscorer etc which are purely sucker markets.

If you need somewhere else to play, you could do worse than visit my
employer....

Cheers

Betting advice, s'il vous plait

   1.  Stick to simple bets like the home-away-or draw.  If you try a
parlay, keep it to the minimum number of games usually three.

   2.  Become friends with Phil Mickelson, the golfer.  He picked the
Diamondbacks to win the World Series back in April, at the beginning of
the last NFL season he picked the Ravens to win the Super Bowl.
Obviously this guy is on to something.

   3.  Either confine your betting to your favorite team or player, or
come up with a complicated Jimmy-the-Greek type system based on historic
performance  that at least sounds like you know what you are doing.

   4.  Dont listen to any advice I give on this subject.  I'm terrible.
I was in Las Vegas over Thankgiving, and had the two NFL games. Green
Bay -7 and Denver -6.5.   First game, Green Bay leads by 16 with two
minutes to go- a safe win- except Detroit-the most pathetic team in the
league- scores a TD, recovers the onside kick, scores again, and loses
by only 2.
Then in the second game Denver is up on  Dallas-the second most pathetic
team in the league- by 16, only to have Dallas score two late TD's and I
lose again.

BTW, Caesars Palace lists Argentina as the favorite at 3/1 with France
at 4/1 and Italy and England at 6/1.  Saudis are the longshot at 200/1.

Yeah that was whacked.  NFL betting is the fastest route to CT paranoia
available.

5.  Don't place soccer bets at Vegas books.  What a rip-off.

6.  I'll contradict someone who advised against exact score: While
the 1-1 1-0 types don't really pay, the returns on scores higher than
2-2 can become quite handsome.  Don't make a habit of it, but if you
have an inkling of a 3-2, try it.

7.  People can and do lose $//.  You have been warned.  No one
wants to see VB in a year kicked out of med school muttering about some
Watford-Birmingham City index bet gone haywire.

If you want some advice and help on the different language used in betting
you can do worse than look on the Sporting Life's website. They've got a
useful help guide to betting at http://SportToday.org/
while not solely based on footie betting does give a lot of goof
information.

Hope that helps
