The biggie is next week. If there are 9 goals in that one I will have a
seizure.

For drama it's right up there with Spain V Yugoslavia.

It would be FANTASTIC if that game were as open as tonight's encounter. I
can see Valencia attacking but apart from Scholl and Elber, Bayern don't
seem to be capable of attacking play. So I predict a tight game with
Valencia getting lucky breaks to win 2-0 or 2-1.

I don't mind an open game but what I don't want to see goals scored due
to amateurish defending.

I confused next week's biggie with this week's biggie for a moment,
particularly since the thread is titled 'LIVERPOOL  LIVERPOOL'.

In many ways, real biggie for Lpool is the match against Charlton
this Saturday. The benefit of winning that match is going to be very
real : an entry into European Cup next season. In terms of both
prestige and finance, that entry is prized. However, Lpool's
League season has been something of a failure. If Lpool had finished
5th, 2 points behind Man Utd and 1 point behind Arsenal , Leeds
and Ipswich, I would still say they had pushed Man U. Now, whether
they finish 3rd or 5th, the fact remains that they did not mount any
challenge in the league campaign.

The last two Cup finals were also big. FA Cup was a nice bonus. Lpool
have probably learnt again how to win when not playing well. Uefa Cup
was very very big.  They had to beat Champions' League dropouts in
that competition. Man Utd also began their upward curve with FA Cup
in 1990 and Cupwinners' Cup in 1991. It is important that Arsenal, Lpool
and Leeds do well next year. Another one-horse race would be
too depressing.

as a liverpool fan i'd rather we'd won the fa cup than uefa cup. we had
to beat champions league dropouts in both competitions (winning at
elland road is something barcelona, for instance, didn't manage) and
the  prestige of the fa cup make it a better prize to have than the uefa
cup, which just looks a bit like leftovers when you've got the champions
league final a week later. although obviously i was delighted when we
won our first european trophy in 17 years.

i know. but i think a good league challenge should come from at least
one of chelsea, leeds, liverpool or arsenal. and maybe man united won't
be quite as good. who knows?
