Very strange that Vennegor of Hesselink would be prefered to Huntelaar
(or Makaay for that matter)

No Makaay???????

Has Seedorf retired from Intl football? I thought he was still a
fairly regular starter fro Milan.

I think VoH is prefered because of his length, he'll be only used as a
pinch-hitter.
Huntelaar and Makaay arent that kind of players.

In my opinion RvH isnt the man in form, Huntelaar would have been a better
first striker.

Makaay wasn't even picked in the initial squad of 34

Seedorf missed out, so did Davids.

Only survivors from France '98 (iirc)

Ooijer
van der Sar
van Bronckhorst

He's been out of the picture for a long time... That said, I have no
idea why.

Davids I can understand, having seen him on a number of occasions for
Spurs this year, he's past it.

Makaay is still scoring bucketfulls of goals for Bayern, year in year
out. Seems like a strange ommison.

Same with Seedorf. Granted I've never seen Lanzaat and Maduro, but
they must be pretty damn good to be keeping a guy with his experience
out of the squad.

Is there some other factor at work here, personality clashes with Van
Basten? Not that that would be unusual for the Dutch.

I don't think so. Maybe these guys are better. I have to admit I'm
surprised also, the squad looks a bit thin in midfield. I can only go
on what I read in the Dutch press because I'm 20000km away and we
don't get a lot of Dutch football on the box. My inclination is to
trust that van Basten knows what he's doing. I can't really help
because I see plenty of Seedorf but little of the guys who've kept him
out of the squad. But the Dutch press seems happy, there's little to
no criticism of Seedorf's missing out. Maybe they see these guys day
in & day out and seem convinced they can do the job.

Maybe one of the people who actually lives there can offer an opinion.

No room for Seedorf? Is this A) the Netherlands' most
Eredivisie-centric entry in a major tournament in awhile and B) its
whitest team in awhile? 14 of 22 are Netherlands-based.

Either MVB really knows what he's doing, or he has no idea what he's
doing. One thing is for sure though, he is nobody's patsy.

5x AZ Alkmaar
5x Ajax Amsterdam
3x PSV Eindhoven
2x Manchester United
2x Hamburger SV
1x Feyenoord     <--- this is a little bit surprising for me...

Van Basten wanted players he can control, who won't see themselves as
above the team and be a bad influence on their campaign. It's been this
way through the qualifiers.

Don't think so, but he's never come close to replicating his club form
with NL and just doesn't seem to fit.

Yes, I thought so too. Seedorf and Davids dont have good records
as team players, at least in their younger days.
