Simple answer is to pulp all your flags, turn them into placards and write
"Kill Westerners" and "Behead enemies of Allah" on them and run around
London with a fake bomb strapped to you. The Old Bill will either a) pretend
they didn't see you or b) *maybe* make a big show of arresting you a few
months later for good publicity, then caution you or charge you with an
insignificant crime which has a 40 fine now that nobody is watching.

I wonder what would have happened in 1914 and 1939-45 if such English
patriotism was sneered at and criminalised by the Government. Churchill will
be turning in his grave.

If this was true 'patriotism' then motorists would be flying them from their
cars all the time. There is a difference between patriotism and  football
fanaticism -which is what this practice is.
Why they bother I just don't know. Bearing in mind England's past record in
the World Cup it is just courting *** - again !!!

"The warning came from the force's equine liaison officer, PC Derek
Grist."

Equine liaison officer?

That explains why there aren't enough malefactor-apprehension officers
to go round

To both of these, and praticularly to Hampshire Police, I assume this means
that they will also be pursuing all reported incidences of people being hit
by cigarette ends and associated paraphernalia, millions of which are
jettisoned from vehicles every day.

What is it with Hampshire Police. PC Grist, their equine liaison officer
clearly has way too much time on his hands. Maybe he ought to get out more
and do some "real" policing.

I kind of get the idea that there a bunch of people out there who see others
having FUN, or worse, EXPRESSING THEMSELVES, and will find any petty reason
to stop it. I assume that Dr Filippone will also be telling us not to put up
Christmas, oops, I mean Winter-Festival-of-your-choice lights because of all
the extra CO2 generated by lighting them.

Notice how it's only England flags people get upset about.
Would there be such a fuss for welsh or Scottish?
No.
The creeping malaise in Britain reacts badly to anything patriotic, and
these flags obviously get under their skin. It's a total farce - if you want
to fly a flag with pride then go right ahead and the bleeding hearts can
stick it up their self-righteous arses

Gotta laugh at this one!! I rode over one of these today funny enough
on my bike, and they're not really a danger. It's the bastard slippy
metal grids and piles of gravel that seem to be deposited all over the
place that need sorting.

Oh come off it.

Even Buckingham Palace doesn't fly the Union Jack every day.

Eh?

There are loads of countries that, unlike England, have never won the World Cup.

You don't even have to look too far from England to find examples of those that
have never won.

I believe that the royal palaces only fly the Union FLAG (they're not ships)
when a royal is in residence.
IIRC this caused a kerfuffle after Diana died as the flag flew at normal
height over Buckingham Palace as the Queen was in residence and very much
alive.

In a simlar vein Edinburgh castle flies a union flag not a saltire as it is
a british army garrison
