Heheh... 3 consecutive misses. 12-13, The Netherlands moved on into
the final. By what little I saw in the extra time, they deserved it.

Yeah - sorry. I'm disappointed, but I'm inclined to think of a
shootout loss in a semifinal as an improvement after the last two
tournaments ended with shootout losses in quarterfinals.

I doubt it. I can't imagine that his presence on the touchline was
inspiring to the 21 year olds whose first memory of England in a major
tournament is probably that of him bottling it in Euro 96.

Against Spain at Euro 96.

Young and Lita look outstanding at this level. You rarely see England
players dribble past opponents at high speed, throw in feints and turns
etc, etc. The defence was pretty good as well. The problem is this was
SGE all over again. Endless longball, going a goal up and defending.
They did the same against Italy, went two goals up, started to sit back,
conceded twice and hung on for draw.

Sadly they haven't impressed a lot in the EPL. Lita perhaps a little,
but Young had more or less disappeared since his transfer to Villa.

I thought that's an "English" thing. AFAIR, England under Bobby Robson
resorted to aimless hoofing from time to time too.

I'd agree that he isn't as fast as Messi, Giggs or Henry, but he's
plenty fast enough.
Besides, comparison with Zizou isn't too bad, is it?

Impressive I will say no, good at this level sure but Pierce screwed at the
end, you are 1-0 up with 3 minutes to go, you do not take your most
dangerous attacker Lita and substituted him for Ferdinand, not Ferdinand's
fault but 60 seconds later Taylor twist his ankle lays down the Dutch do not
stop play, he stands and skips in one leg and the Dutch take advantage and
score. The point being that after Lita went out the Dutch threw caution to
the wind and attack in masse because they knew there was no one in the
England attack that could worry about.

In another note the Dutch also did show very poor sportsmanship,
unfortunately this is not the first time either.
