AC Milan's record in EC1

AC Milan's record in EC1

Post by Loris Magna » Wed, 12 Apr 1995 04:00:00

Recently, Hamid posted Milan's record in EC1.  Since I have been compiling
Milan's Cup stats in the last few months, I would like to correct a few
minor points:

Milan's game vs. PSG was the 100th of the EC1 campaigns (not 99th)
and the record stands as follows:

            P       W     D     L      Gf     Ga

Home        44      35    6     3     120     22
Away        46      18   14    14      60     48
Neutral     10       7    0     3      23     11
___________________________________________________
Totals     100      60   20    20     203     81

   Note the symmetry!!!

Note two things: for the purposes of the above table, the two games played
this year in Trieste (Milan-AEK, Milan-Ajax) are considered played on a
Neutral site (whether Trieste is "neutral" or not is debatable, but for the
above table "home" means San Siro).  Also the game against Olympique Marseilles
in 1991 is counted as a 3-0 defeat since the 3-0 forfait score is the official
FIFA result and supersedes the actual 1-0 defeat on the field.

A few more details:

The 3 teams which have beaten Milan in San Siro in EC1 are:

Saarbrucken -  3-4 in 1955/56 in Milan's first EC1 game ever (Milan won the
return in Saarbrucken by 1-4).

Barcelona - 0-2 in 1959/60 (Barcelona went on to cream Milan 5-1 in Barcelona
in the return)

and Porto - 0-1 in 1979/80 (this was the return match, the away leg in Oporto
had ended up 0-0)

Also, the alltime leading scorers of Milan an ALL THREE European Cups are:

1.   Altafini      20 goals
2.   van Basten    18
3.   Prati         16
4.   Bigon         14
5.   Rivera        12
     Chiarugi      12
7.   Sormani       11
     Virdis        11
     SIMONE        11
10.  MASSARO        9
11.  Schiaffino     8
     Benetti        8
13.  Calloni        7
     Papin          7
15.  Grillo         6
     Barison        6
     Gullit         6
     Rijkaard       6

Capitals indicate players still active with Milan

Cheers,
Loris

Hmm.  I am already confused with the idea of Symmetry, now what would
happen if Super Symmetry was mentioned :-)  would be super confused :-))
