Press release from US Soccer.

US Beats Honduras 1-0, Remains in Dallas for Gold Cup Semis

DALLAS (Saturday, July 17, 1993) -- The U.S. National Soccer Team defeated
Honduras 1-0 tonight before 18,107 fans at the Cotton Bowl to finish first in
Group A of the CONCACAF Gold Cup championship.
Defender Alexi Lalas headed home Chris Henderson's corner kick in the 29th
minute and that's all the offense the Americans needed. They will remain in
Dallas for the July 21 semifinal.
Jamaica earned its spot in the July 22 semifinal at Mexico City with a 1-1
draw against Panama in Saturday's opener, and the other semifinalist will be
decided tomorrow when Group B play concludes in Mexico City with the
Mexico-Canada and Costa Rica-Martinique matches.
Lalas' goal was his third this year off corner kicks. He headed in
Henderson's cross in a 2-1 loss to Colombia May 8 in Miami, then knocked home
Tab Ramos' kick in the 2-0 U.S. Cup '93 victory over England June 9 in Foxboro,
Mass.
Goalkeeper Tony Meola, 8-0 in Gold Cup play -- including the USA's five wins
en route to the '91 Gold Cup title -- turned in another brilliant performance,
stopping the Hondurans twice on breakaways and making five saves.
The United States dictated play throughout the match keeping constant
pressure on goalkeeper Wilmer Cruz, and outshot Honduras 16-13. Forward Roy
Wegerle worked free for three shots from close range, but each slid just wide
of the mark.
Thomas Dooley left the game in the 36th minute after reinjuring his tender
right ankle and was replaced by Dominic Kinnear. He is listed as probable for
Wednesday's semi-final match.
