Veron is the best midfielder in the world

Says Claudio Ranieri. Well one has to smile if nothing else. :)

Reports also indicate that Vieri is to stay on in Inter. WHEW!

Extract from AP:

"LONDON (AFP) - Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri has hailed his
15-million-pound (24-million-dollar) signing Juan Sebastian Veron as
the best midfielder in the world and predicted that the Argentinian
will thrive at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking as Chelsea unveiled their latest acquisitions, Veron and
England midfielder Joe Cole, the Italian manager also squashed
speculation that Inter Milan striker Christian Vieri could be next on
the shopping list.

"I think Christian will stay at Inter," he said while refusing to
comment on whether Chelsea had made a bid for the Italian
international."

LOL, there are at least two better midfielders on his team.

Doubt that.

Veron is not the best midfielder by any means, but he's not the third best
player at his position on Chelsea or Man U.

I'd take Duff or Geremi for sure before I'd take Veron.

They play in different positions.
Veron is the best player for his position (playmaker just in front of the
defence), after Zidane.

I'd rather have Duff and Gerami before him, and going by last season
I'd rather have had Giggs, Scholes or Beckham before him. If Keane had
been fit all season he'd be there too.

A position few play in!

That's one of the reasons why the Italian national team struggled, because
they had difficulty replacing Albertini.
Milan replaced him with Pirlo, (who has the attacking skills, but can't
defend) and Ambrosini.

Very difficult because it requires vision, accurate long-distance passing
and good defensive skills.
He also sets the pass and tempo of the play.

The "metronome" of the team.

No they struggled because of coaches, the personnel was there.

Seedorf has replaced Albertini, most of Milan's play goes through him.
Pirlo sits in front of the defence.

The midfield was non-existent, no-one was there to command the play in the
centre.
Gattuso and Zanetti don't have those skills.
If Ambrosini was there it would have been different.

I suppose Trapattoni selected the team, so he's to blame.

He plays more in attack.

Where Albertini used to play.

That's in terms of form, and the fact that Chelsea will play a
different game to Man United may allow Veron to slot in more easily.
If they give him the room and 2 wingers in Gronkjaer and Duff, it may
just work.

Agreed.

Albertini played in midfield, Pirlo plays in front of the back four.

Best in the world? After Fbio Rochemback? LOL.

Seriously, has anybody seen Rochemback playing for Sporting Lisbon?
It's unbeliavable that this guy did not have a place in Rijkard's
team, I'd take him over a lot of the Roy Keane's and Edgar Davids' of
this world.

Maybe he can play forward central defender, since that position
doesn't exist, he could be the best at it.

I'd take my dead grandmother of Veron, he's the worst midfielder currently playing
in the premiership.  No wonder Alex Ferguson was desperate to get rid of him after
watching him in training everyday.  United must be laughing all the way to the
bank with that 12.5M after being resigned to losing all 28M on the donkey.
