England tomorrow--what gives??

Is it my imagination, or has England, at least since the days of Ramsay,
never been able to figure out what the hell they are doing until it is too
late?  According to the Guardian, the team tomorrow is likely to feature an
entirely new formation (1-4-5-1), and two new players (Hargreaves at right
back and Walton at holding midfielder).  Is this really any way to run a
football team?   Crouch hasn't been anything special but he did score a
goal, and Rooney will largely be wasted alone up front, since he does much
of best work dropping back a little. And meanwhile England has a grand total
of one major injury, Owen.  I don't get it.

As you were--not Walton, Carrick, at holding midfielder.  Sorry.

Everybody agreed that Lampard and Gerrard do not work, so now they
stuck either a holder (Carrick) or a defensive midfielder (Hargreaves)
behind those two. Since SGE doesn't have the balls to drop Beckham, or
either Lampard or Gerrard, hence they play Rooney alone up front.
Hardly surprising.

Won't be much different with the formation England started in the first
half against Sweden. The difference being Rooney to play Crouch's role,
and Gerrard in Rooney's role., except that he will get a lot more
involved in the midfield.

Walton?  Is that John 'Boy' Walton?  Carrick, but we get your gist,
more than likely peer pressure from the F.A. who not only frequently
bow to the media but still didn't have a clue back in the days when
they sacked the late Alf Ramsey (their most successful manager if you
award 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw in all full international
matches).
Whatever the result tomorrow Ecuador's Delgado has promised to test
Rooney's recently repaired metatarsal so watch out for a another
tactical team change.

On a (rather) related note:

Bets off England

English gamblers have shown their lack of faith in Sven-Goran
Eriksson's side by refusing to back them to beat Ecuador today. "For
the first time ever, we look like making a profit if England win," a
spokesman for William Hill said.

So much for English arrogance.

I predict that they make that profit.  Gamblers have all the luck.
Just think of all the times they've made money when England lost.

We have a manager who decided that his strike force for Germany should
consist of two half fit players, a 17 year old kid that's never played
a match for his club and a circus freak.
