I don't think that the selection or non-selection of certain players
will make a great deal of difference to the chances of France winning.
It really depends on whether the starting eleven can play as a unit,
deal with pressure, defend with ease and score goals.
I can understand Anelka's non-selection, on pure skill, I think he's
certainly better than Ciss and Saha. But if there is one player who
could destabilise a squad, it would be Anelka. However, that doesn't
explain the point of him being selected in France's past few games.
Barthez or Coupet, I don't think it matters too much. Both are excellent
goalkeepers, Barthez has the advantage of experience, but that won't
count for much if the defence is weak.
Boumsong, I've never seen him play for Newcastle, so the fact that his
sucks at club level is a surprise as he's generally played quite well
for France. Dhorasoo, as I PSG supporter I should be pleased, but I
don't think he can play at an international level. He might have played
1, maybe 2, good games for France. I would never have selected Ciss,
time and time again, he proves his selfishness and his lack of
awareness. He might have scored a few for France, but he's never played
well.
I feel sorry for Guily, I don't think he's ever really been given a
chance, and when it has happened, he gets injured.
My starting eleven would be:
Coupet
Sagnol
Thuram
Gallas
Abidal
Vieira
Makelele
Zidane
Wiltord
Malouda
Henry
