Can Liverpool win the league?

Liverpool F.C. are perfectly placed this season to win the
Premiership but do you thimk they have enough "bottle" to win it?
I personally think they need a David Batty/Paul Ince type figure
in the midfield as we are currently overloaded with ball players
(if having to many ball players is a bad thing).
I also think that when Steve Macmanaman is marked out of the
game then our attacking threat is snuffed out.

what do you think ?

Having won it 17 times in the past (correct me if I'm wrong), I'm pretty sure they have the BOTTLE!!!!

Can Liverpool win the league?

Post by Steven Esdal » Tue, 18 Feb 1997 04:00:00

I dunno. They're doing OK at the moment, but their consistency is as bad
as my local football team !

They do well against Man Utd and the ilk but when it comes to teams like
Coventry they're lucky to scrape a point !

I suppose we could do with a ball winner. As I have always said drop that
PRAT Phil Babb and bring in Razor Ruddock. Imagine what him and Mark
Wright will do in the defence !

Liverpool COULD win the title this season, but it is definitely going to
be more exciting than the past few seasons !

IMO, Phil Babb, along with David James, has been one of Liverpools most
improved players in the last couple of seasons. The timing of his challenges
is spot on and he has realised that that is what he's there for, not spraying
passes out of defence which is where he was getting caught out before.
I would play Babb, Wright and Ruddock together. When Ruddock isn't playing,
the Reds tend to defend alot deeper than usual (Chelsea in the cup in
particular) and he does bring an extra dimension to the team.

Okay, Liverpool have won the title 18 times. I think they can win it
if they change certain attitudes and bring in a tough tackling midfielder.
Consistency etc........

hmmm, i don't think liverpool can win the league.  there are only two
clubs with a real chance to grab the title and they are man united,
because they always win it (well, at least it looks like that) and those
great magpies, because they're simply the best!

There aren't many games left. Look at the past three seasons, Manchester
United have always finished strongly towards the end of the season. To
matter worse, they are so use to these kind of situation and it's nothing
  new to the lads.

As for Liverpool, their team of youngsters is in these kind of situation
for the first time in their career. Look at Collymore and specially
FOWLER, they are starting to lose their composure. And goals has stop
flowing, especially at Anfield where the pressure from the home fans is
  high.

Sad to say, I pick Manchester United to win the title.

'Tis still to early to pick out a real winner yet. The key matches which
will decide the championship still haven't been played yet....altho' the
2 that already have been played (United vs Liverpool and United vs
United[heh heh]) may have had some bearing already. Anyway, for those of
you who are snug in thinking United will win, you still have to play
Newcastle at home on the 23rd of April(Will Shearer come back???),
Everton away on the 22nd of March and the key one....the one at Anfield
on the 19th of April....

For those overly optimistic Liverpool fans out there....don't forget
that you have 6 of your remaining 10 games being played away from home.
and with your team being rather "inexperienced" playing at this stage of
the season with your position in mind, this may cost you alot of
points... not to mention that you will be playing Everton away(Have you
lot ever beaten Joe Royle's team yet?) on the 23rd of April and Arsenal
on the 24th of March......

Plus, United do have the prospect of playing Porto tomorrow and they may
even qualify for the semis of the Euro cup.....not to mention who
Liverpool will face in the Semis of the CWC.

My Pick???IMVVHO, Liverpool to win by the odd point or maybe even goal
difference .*abestos underwear on*:)

Cheers,
TLC
