***************************************
Group Phase (two advance from each group):

  Wed, Apr 29

   Group 6
Everton (Vi?a del Mar-CHL) 1-1 Chivas Guadalajara (MEX)
[Jaime Riveros 47' (FK) - Javier Hernandez 6']
Hernndez received a long ball on the right flank with
acres of space and slotted past the onrushing Dalsasso.
Riveros took a free kick from the left side of the box and
surprised Michel with a direct curling shot, but that
  wasn't enough.
Chivas are through and Everton are out.

CA Lans (ARG) 1-1 Caracas FC (VEN)
  [Ivn Macalik 39' - Daro Figueroa 31']
Figueroa ran into a smart free kick and flicked the ball
over a defender and past Marchesn. Macalik headed a
corner kick into the small space between Vera and the
  post.
Caracas finished top of the group.

  Final standings: Caracas 10; Chivas 9; Everton 8;
   Lans 4.

   Group 1
LDU Quito (ECU) 2-3 Sport Recife (BRA)
  [Gabriel Espnola 3', Danny Vera 41' - Andrade 23', 78',
   Igor 57']
Espnola headed in a corner to put the hosts ahead.
Vandinho rolled to Andrade and his shot hit both posts
before going in. Magr?o saved a penalty from Vaca.
Salas reacted angrily to a foul by Durval and was sent
off, leaving the Ecuadorian team shorthanded. Vera
received from Byron and sent the ball into the top
corner to end the first half at 2-1. Igor headed an
Andrade cross to equalize again. Another long range
shot by Andrade gave Sport at least one of the six
best campaigns in the phase, and that in the very
group of death! The defending champions leave the
competition as bottom of their group.

 Colo Colo (Santiago-CHL) 0-1 Palmeiras (S?o Paulo-BRA)
  [Cleiton Xavier 87']
Palmeiras were one man down (Marc?o had taken a
second yellow), Diego Souza had left the pitch after a
knock in the head and Keirrison was in another bad
night, hitting the post twice among other misses.
Then Cleiton Xavier gathered a ball from around 30
meters out, found some space and sent the ball flying
wonderfully into the top corner. A nervous finish
ensued, with Colo Colo throwing the kitchen sink and
all but Palmeiras managed to scrape by to complete
a 100% success rate for Brazilian clubs in the group
  phase.

  Final standings: Sport 13; Palmeiras 10; Colo Colo 7;
   LDU 4.
