On Wednesday evening (2nd August) the Varsity Colts won their semi final
against Linton Army 31 - 8, after leading 14 - 0 at haltime.

The second semi final saw the Varisty K's shut out HSOB 16 - 6 to win the
second semi final after leading 8 - 6 at halftime.

The final for the Colts Premier Grade will be played on Sunday the 6th
August due to the Test Match between the All Blacks and Australia at

Whatever the final result Varsity is assured of winning the 2000 Manawatu
Premier Colts Grade. Well done to both teams and coaching staff.

1 August 2000 - 1st August 2000 - Senior 2 Semi's, Senior 3 Semi's and Colts
Premier Semi's and Finals Week.

THIS weekend sees the rush of semi finals activity with four Varsity sides
in three different grades competing to make it through to the Finals.

FIRST up on Wednesday night (2nd August) as curtain raisers to a Manawatu
NPC warm up game against a Queensland XV are the Colt's Premier Semi Finals.
The the top finishing Varsity Colts are playing fourth placed Linton Army at
4pm at the Showgrounds in the first semi final, and second placed Varsity K
are playing third placed HSOB at 5.15pm inwhat I suspect will be a very
tight second semi-final on the Oval.

BOTH teams have had excellent season's to date and it is with some
confidence that we could be looking at an all Varsity Final in the Colts
Premier Grade which will be played on Sunday the 6th due to the All Black
Test Match on Saturday. Good luck to both teams.

ALSO on Sunday are the Semi Final's for the Senior Second and Senior Third
grades. Top qualifier Massey Rams are down to play Rangitane, which should
be a real bruiser of match if their earlier game is to be any indication.

IN the Senior 3 the C-Men, who have gone undeafted this season and are the
top qualifier look to take on fourth placed Freyberg, in a game that could
be moved to Friday Night, if coach Stu Smith gets his way.

Varsity A's finish season with a flourish.

The final game for the 2000 Varsity A's was played this weekend, and the
boys finished the season with a flourish to put away Oroua to win the Val
Holland Trophy 34 - 22.

The Varsity A's scored 5 tries, with Manawatu NPC team members Mark
Knofflock and Nigel Keegan prominent in the game scoring two and one tries
respectively. Other scorers were Sean Baxter, Micah Bremner with a try a
piece and John Guise who scored 3 conversion's and a penalty - but missed
close to twenty in what has to be an off day for Guise.

While it was great for the A's to win their last game and to finish on a
good note with a run of 3 wins in a row. The game also brought an end to a
number of players careers with the Varsity Club as they make the transition
from being a 'Scarfie' to joining the workforce in new cities.

2nd Five James 'Boof' Truman, Fullback Cameron 'Drakie' Drake, and veteren
Flanker's Sean 'Raj' Baxter and Blair 'Webo' Robinson played their last game
in the Varsity Blue. These players have been fantastic Varsity players and
have come up through the grades from K's, Colts, Ram's to A's. Thanks for
all your efforts guys. Top marks.

In other Finals, Te Kawu beat Marist  20 - 15 for the Hankins Shield and FOB
beat Feilding 14-5 to win the Centennial Shield.
