Yep. Before WC87, coach Brian Lochore took his ABs around country areas
to remind them of who they were playing for. Same for Mains in 95.

Hart does it well too. Respect for the punters is what it is. Whether
the kids in wheelchairs or the old folks or Mr and Mrs J Blow.

Her end'th the (sanctimonious) lesson.

Just for the record. The Gruaniad yesterday reported that Wasps fans
chanted "Judas, Judas" at Dillydally. To clear things up, it was mostly
us (Fez boys) or as the Times stated 'a certain section of the crowd'.

Good for Dallaglio I say - it  shows he's a rugby player not a performing
seal. Presumably he began playing in the era when you played for yourself
and your team rather than a TV company, advertisers, sponsors, and an
establishment who change the rules to pander to the people who have as much
passion for the game as a Latvian stamp-collector.  My guess is he is not
talking about the die-hards who watch rugby week in week out, but the
day-trippers who flock together for the internationals. If people are stupid
enough to pay him inflated wages then he'd be a fool not to pick them up -
but they deserve as much respect as a crusty tampon. Rugby is for playing
not watching.

Or fewer games at what has become World XV-ish standards.  I'd
amalgamate the AD1 and AD2 into two conferences. Call them East or West
or whatever.  Seed them.  Top eight sides go in to some kind of
play-offs.  That way you would have a bit of balance.  The top sides
would have some 'easier' fixtures.  The smaller clubs get a piece of the
action.  Some of them are capable of drawing very good gates.  At the
moment its like Man Utd playing Liverpool every week.  It doesn't happen
in any other sport.

Quite frankly Lawrence with an attitude like that I am ***y glad your not my
peer. I am a member at Northampton and I beleive if any Saints player were to
voice the same sentiments as Dallaglio their life would not be worth living in
front of a Franklins Gardens crowd.I am sure the same could be said of
Gloucester, Leicester and any of the other clubs with a large supporter base.
Just who does he think he is. (God ?)

Nope.  He is just another front-man in another sport going Pro.  He is
going to be earning more than Newcastle's Rob Andrew and it will sell a
lot of newspapers.  Boonie and The Fez Boys have seen it for what it
is.  They are honest and true men.

To put in a little bit of context this came about when sections of the
crowd took to chanting Judas on the rumour he may be signing up with the
RFU in the near future.
When asked how he felt about it he made a comment of which the quote
is a small part of.
In context it seems to me this peer stuff refers to those chanting
Judas as opposed to all rugby supporters.
With the WC coming up he's going to have to get the hang of the 'no
comment'option if he's in a pissy mood :)

Bruno can look after himself, but don't you think that's a little bit over
the top? Should we go back to amateurism? What would you do in his
circumstances? I wouldn't want to defend what he said at all but he's not
exactly landed Wasps in it over the years, unlike one or two now residing in
the North-East. I say good luck to him and from what I've said earlier, I
couldnt claim to be unhappy if he signed the RFU contract either.

I would say he was upset by the taunts aimed at him, and reacted. Obviously
he reacted badly, but clearly he hadn't experienced anything like it
before.

Chanting "Judas" at someone who is saying they consider playing for England
to be important is being "honest and true"? As for the jibes about seeing
through those interested in the money, how many players out of the current
crop would remain at Saracens if Nigel Wray pulled out his millions? You're
talking here about fans of a club which has moved to an entirely different
area in the search for more money.

What are the Saracens fans concerned about anyway, that their players might
ultimately show loyalty to something other than Nigel Wray's money? Or that
someone might think that Watford Saracens and Wasps plc aren't the most
important things in the rugby world?

And the solution to the fact that someone thinks differently? Target a
player with a display of abuse and hostility naturally.

What exactly is it he is supposed to have done that is "wrong"?

This clearly isn't about anything that he's done to Wasps, since the abuse
didn't come from Wasps' supporters.

I can't believe anyone would find it at all strange that some players would
want to play for their national side more than anything else, or that as a
professional he isn't within his rights to talk to anybody who is offering
him money -- at the moment though all he's done is to say he will be taking
up his contractual right to play for England if selected.

      Cheers,

                  Ben
