London Division have chosen a team largely from the English 3rd division due
to the EPRUC ban on 1st and 2nd Courage League Clubs' players taking part. The
Northern clubs, with the exception of Newcastle, have refused to accept the
ban and are allowing their players to represent the Divisions. This leaves
London with Skipper John Fowler (Sale) and Chris Brierley (Orrell) as the only
players from League 1 clubs in their side to face the touring Argentinians on
Wednesday. Good luck to them. They will need it.
Argentina, realising that some English Divisions would be seriously under
strength, offered to cut short the tour but the RFU claimed that such action
was not necessary. But then they don't have to play them.
Meanwhile, back in the North where such things are placed firmly where they
belong, up EPRUC's Bum, Northern Division have chosen a side containing 8
Sale players and only 1 (Leeds Centre Diccon Edwards) from a club not
represented by EPRUC for the game vs Queensland. Only Sir John Hall's
Newcastle have failed to stand firm with the rest of the North and I hope
their players are happy counting their money and enjoying going shopping when
they could be having a really good time.
