Pre-S12 friendly - Free State vs Northern Transvaal; Temperatures

I thought this might confound whatever bookies are setting odds on the Super-12
this year.  Maybe Auckland had better start worrying about the temperatures
in Bloemfontein?

FREE STATE CHEETAHS OVERWHELM BLUE BULLS
Free State convincingly beat Northern Transvaal 42-16 in a
pre-season friendly to the 1997 Super 12 rugby series on Friday
night.
The Free State Cheetahs had territorial advantage throughout
and camped in the visitors half for the opening 20 minutes. The
home side opened their account with a brilliant jinxing run by
Springbok Sevens left wing Stephen Brink who scored five metres in
from the corner.
Although MJ Smith, the Free State flyhalf missed the conversion
as he had done with an earlier penalty, the Cheetahs were never
headed in the match.
The winners scored three goals, three tries and two penalties
to the Blue Bulls three penalties and a lone try by *** Henry
Tromp.
Northerns remaining points came from the boot of Theo van
Rensburg (flyhalf) who added one conversion and three penalties.
Free States points came from tries by Brink (2), Braam Els,
Christo Potgieter (2) and eighth man Jaco Coetzee. Smith kicked two
penalties and two conversions while Jurie Kruger converted Brink's
second try.
Amongst the forwards Braam Els and Ryno Opperman had the
measure of the Otto brothes, Krynauw and Johan, by 12-9 in the line
outs. The visitors led 8-6 at halftime.
