Waikato 45 (10)
Taranaki 3 (3)

Matthew Cooper:  2 tries,  1 penalty,  6 conversions
Roger Randle: 1 try
Bruce Reihana:  1 try
Rhys Duggan:  1 try
Wayne Warlow/Damien Karuna: 1 try (not sure who scored the last try)

Jason Hammond:  1 penalty

Taranaki came out fired up and really put pressure on Waikato,  especially
up front with their formidible front row combination of Heeps,  Dawson and
Slater.  Poor lineout throwing by Waikato *** Nick Mantell also did not
help the home teams cause,  but desparate tryline defense kept out the
initial surge from Taranaki,  who maintained possession well and really
dominated the first half.  Matthew Cooper put Waikato in front with a
penalty about halfway into the first half but after Taranaki equalised
through the boot of first five Jason Hammond,  Cooper answered by breaking
through the Taranaki defense and dotting down under the posts 5 minutes
before halftime,  and with his conversion took Waikato out to a 10-3
halftime lead.
The second half was all Waikato.  Relentless pressure from the backline
paid dividends,  as the trys started to come.  Cooper started with his
second,  and the last try was scored as I was leaving the park to get home
to watch the All Black test,  so I'm not sure who scored it.

In summary,  a game in which IMO the final score flattered Waikato,  but a
convincing win in the end.  Taranaki have shown that their strength is in
their forward pack,  with some excellent scrummaging,  good quick rucks
and lineout work.  There is talent in their backline,  but the difference
between amateurs and professionals has once again been clearly highlighted
in the score.

As a side note,  so far this season Waikato have scored 241 points for,
and only 3 against,  and a team is yet to score a try against them.
