The Unnamed, Unsponsered First Division.
Swansea 49 - Cardiff 23
Trys: Stuart Davies (3); Weatherly, Taylor and 5 Penalties, one drop
goal for our Arwel. (By the way did all of you see the Arwel Is
Richie of The Manic Street Preachers posting on rsru? Hysterical! I
have it on my hard disk if anyone missed it!). There was also a drop
goal for Booth, to make up Swansea's 49 Points.
Cardiff's All Stars managed 2 tries by Simon Hill, one for Howley.
Jonathan Davies kicked a conversion a penalty, the other 3 points
added by Jarvis's boot in the form of a penalty. It seems money can't
by everything does it folks. Two stuffings in three games. All good
form for Pontypridd to capitalize on Wednesday night ... of course a
match report and results will be posted. This is of course if Cardiff
don't cry off ... there is a distinct possibility the match will be
postponed. Jon Humphreys went off needing stitches in a head wound,
and his replacement Paul Young also went off with a dislocated elbow.
All that money, and they have run out off ***s ... sad state of
Stuart Davies, Colin Charvis and Alan Reynolds were collectively the
difference, sweeping up loose ball, and capitalizing on sloppy
Cardiff play. If I were a Cardiff supporter ... I would be getting
Newport 29 - Caerphilly 10
Trys for Newport from the ex Ponty live wire Nicky Lloyd (2), who had
an excellent opening league game. Pontys loss, Newport's gain! Also
trys for Workman and Connor. Connor also kicked 3 conversions and a
The new boys of the first division (coached by my ex-geography
teacher at Tonyrefail Comprehensive School incidentally - Chris
Davey) managed a spirited fightback with two trys, one from David
Phillips and one for Starr (Freddy?). They had their chances ... but
failed to cash in.
Dunvant 21 - Ebbw Vale 10
The yo-yo club of Division 1 and 2! Dunvant are back! Ebbw Vale
skippered by ex-Ponty player Kingsley Jones came close, but Dunvant's
strength came through. Ebbw Vale scored with a try Llewellyn, after
Dunvant opened the scoring with a drive from a lineout, the ball
grounded by Stuart Jenkins. The second half Dunvant took control with
further trys from Dixon and a charge down clearance by Mark David.
Ebbw Vale could only retaliated with a penalty from Hayward.
Bridgend 13 - Llanelli 9
Thank God I didn't go to this one. I was tempted, Bridgend is only 20
mins drive from me, and Ponty were not playing on the opening
weekend. It was rated the worse of the day, in all leagues! Full of
mistakes and penalties. For what it is worth. Gareth Thomas scored
the games only try for Bridgend, and I suppose that was the
difference! The rest of the scoring ... Conversion and a penalty from
Lyndon Griffiths, and three penalties from Llanelli's Stephen Jones.
Bridgends injury list was extended when 6ft 6ins lock, was
stretchered off. Man of the match was Bridgends new signing from
Maesteg (Bridgend Seconds I like to call them!) Chris Stephens
Treorchy Rhondda Zebra's 17 - Newbridge 23
Man of the match Paul Kawulock inspired Newbridge to an away win at
the Oval. He scored a try, along with Joe Powell. Paul Jones, with a
waltzing run thru the Newbridge defense, made the score look
respectable in injury time, but all too late I am afraid. Treorchy
scored with a try from Paul Jones earlier in the game. Dai Evans
proved to be trusty with the boot (I will NEVER forget THAT drop goal
when Treorchy beat Ponty at the Oval!) with two conversions and a
penalty for the Zebra's. Likewise three conversions for Newbridges
Treorchy manager, Bradley Mantle admitted, "They wanted to win more than us"
Other games played this weekend ...
South Africa 32 - New Zealand 22
Anglo/Welsh Friendlies or League (dependent if you are WRU affiliated
of ERU affiliated! Sad isn't it)
Cross Keys 23 - Blackheath 50
Pontypool 13 - Waterloo 11
Richmond 91 - Maesteg 3 (hey an English club, full of Welsh Players!)
Blackwood 22 - Coventry 45
South Wales Police 29 - Mosley 19 (Yay .. A Welsh Win!)
Abertillery 13 - Wakefield 38
Nottingham 13 - Aberavon 69 (woweee Biggest Welsh Club win of the weekend!)
Cardiff Inst. 24 - Bedford 39
Bonymaen 13 - London Scottish 23
Llandovery 14 - Rotherham 27
Rugby 41 - Ystradgynlais 24
Champions Cup - Cardiff Arms Park
Pontypridd 60 - Neath 19
The game to replace the ill fated Liecester v Pontypridd game.
Pontypridd stuffed them. Final score was Pontypridd 60 - Neath 19.
Kevin Morgan (2 tries); David Manley (hat trick); Jason Lewis; Simon
Enoch (2 tries), Gareth Wyatt, Neil Jenkins (4 conv), Paul John (2
tries), Neil Enyon, Phil John, Andy Metcalfe, Greg Prosser, Paul
Owen, Martyn Williams, Dale McIntosh (1 Try) and Richie Collins.
Great game ... and a great start to our home season. We out played
Neath in every facet of the game, who looked lost without Leigh
Davies in the centre and Patrick Horgan. The Llewellyn Brother
replacement look well out of their depth!
We have a real live wire in Kevin Morgan, and I can see Crispin
Cormack (our usual number one full back) struggling to keep his place
this season. Metcalfe went over with what looked like a dodgey ankle
injury, this means our replacement prop Ioan Jones got his first full
home game, at the National Stadium! What a way to start your career!
Jon Evans came on for Phil John, as a precautionary measure, by god
he is fast for a ***. Phil John (The Sardis Road favourite) had
better look out too!
Sorry it is a bit biased that report ... but I pasted it from another
email! And I haven't time to do a full match report right now!
Most Important Swalec Cup First Round Results (and no I am not typing
all them out ... there's ***y hundreds of them!)
Tonyrefail (where I live!) 43 - Loughor 13!!
Yippeee we are thru to the second round!
Perhaps I should post all the teams that played on rsru, just to
annoy the hell out of Dutton. I mean he got lost with Ystradgynlais,
how would he ever cope with Nantyfyllon, Cwmtyrch and Cwmllynfech!!!
My next posting will be after Pontypridd v Cardiff on Wednesday night!
