Oxford 17 Major Stanley's XV 45

A wonderful crisp, sunny afternoon at Iffley Road, a few good mates in
attendance, good beer (Morrell's Smooth) and teriffic rugby. It doesn't
get much better than that.

There was one old boy in the crowd who was attending his 70th Major
Stanley's match -- been to every one since 1928.

And despite fears that professionalism would rob Stanley's of top flight
players we still had the likes of Paul Hull, both Hopleys, Gareth Rees,
Nu'ualiita, Geoff Probyn and Ben Clarke on show.

Wonderful afternoon. What rugby's all about, really.

On that note, what has happened Paul Hull since his impressive
England performances a number of years ago?

He's still playiong for Bristol, I believe. But they, or course, are
languishing at the foot of div one.

BTW, my spies in the Oxford camp tell me the post-match celebrations
went on well into the wee small hours, with a number of fullsome
representatives of the flower of Oxford womanhood apparently only too
happy to show their appreciation to the Stanleys lads for their splendid
performance in time honoured fashion.

Unfortunately I was unable to extract further details as my informant,
who must remain nameless, was experiencing considerable difficulty
talking, doubtless as a result of infliction by some seasonal virus.

Good to know, however, that these professionals still know how to enjoy
themselves.

Which is probably why we lag behind the SH teams in terms of fitness:
Our lads are still going on the***after games instead of nurturing
their bodies with sensible dietary habits... Yeah, I'd rather have a
beer as well, don't blame them for a minute.
