Currie Cup Preview for "Weekend" 13-14 August 1998

Currie Cup Preview for "Weekend" 13-14 August 1998.

Because of the Tri-Nations test on Saturday 15 August, no Currie Cup
games will be played on that day. Strangely enough, there will be a game
on Thursday, and no game on Sunday.

Thursday 13 August - Free State Cheetahs vs Mpumalanga Pumas
While Free State have yet to play as well as they did last year, they
are still looking good, and will have no trouble with this match. The
Pumas have failed to score log points in any of their games this year,
and this dismal run is likely to extend to a fifth game. My prediction?
Cheetahs to win 49-15.

Friday 14 August - SWD Eagles vs Blue Bulls
The pick of this weekend's Currie Cup matches, this one is likely to be
very close. The Bulls are increasingly confident following a string of
good results, and should have enough to win this one. The only area of
concern for the Bulls is the lack of a replacement goalkicker for Casper
Steyn. Hannes Venter has missed plenty of kicks in his two most recent
appearances. My prediction: Bulls to win 34-24.

Friday 14 August - North West vs Northern Free State
The "Mielie Derby" should be closely contested, but as neither team has
had much in the way of good form this season, it could go either way. My
prediction? Home town advantage will see North West win it 31-21.

Friday 14 August - Gauteng Falcons vs Western Province
The Falcons have had a good season so far, with only one defeat in four
games. However, WP have enough good players in their side to beat the
Falcons, despite the absence of at least 5 players on national duty. My
prediction? WP to win again: 42-23.

Friday 14 August - Boland vs Eastern Province
Eastern Province have been unlucky to face (and lose to) four good teams
in this year's competition. Despite playing away from home, they should
be able to break their drought in Wellington, as Boland have looked a
shadow of last season's semifinal contenders. My prediction? Boland's
misery to continue, as EP win 32-17.

Crunt street?? Not sure if there is a joke in there Mike (I'm a bit slow this
morning, Thursday pissup after OP 1st XV *finally* won a rugby match) but I
never heard of "Crunt Street".

Only drags I heard of are in Voortrekker Street, and that does'nt happen much
other than ending with a bunch of
pissed-up-gel-haired-afrikaans-boys-in-their-daddys-BMW's swearing each other
and then ***ing off.

Hmm, waste of time really - theres more action at a hostel rugby match :-))

cheers
Deon

Some people call it Proes Street but I think you're right about
Voortrekker
(one street north) being the scene of the Sunday night
drag-racing.That
and the Sunday braais at the Wonderboom, used to be the only Sunday
entertainment. But time changes everything, even street names.:o)
