Chiefs halfback Issac Boss has walked away from the team on the eve of
its important Super 12 clash against Canterbury at Jade Stadium. Boss,
who was promoted to the starting lineup on Tuesday night after regular
half-back Rhys Duggan came down with a mystery illness, could not be
contacted for comment today.
Coach Kevin Greene says as far as he was aware it had nothing to do with
the naming of notorious half-back beater "Rugged" Reuben Thorne in the
Crusaders' lineup for Friday night's match.
"Look, we're quite familiar with Thorne's reputation as a sucker puncher
in the tight but the secret is to lure him out into the open" said
Greene who was hopeful that Captain Jonno Gibbs would fill in at
half-back until a replacement could be found. "As soon as you get Thorne
out of his comfort zone, he becomes like a rabbit blinded by the
headlights of an oncoming truck. The only noticeable difference is that
road-kill moves faster."
Thorne, currently undergoing intensive anger management therapy,
vehemently denied that he was a half-back beater and said he would give
Chiefs fullback Glen Jackson a jolly good hiding just to prove it....
