Canadian news - Japan Sevens

Well I'm not too surprised by the news (see appended report).  The CCSD
is in Australia and they seem to be the cream of the crop in sevens as
evidenced by our good results in the Hong Kong sevens when the team was
basically CCSD.

Velox has one player on the current team, Shane Thompson, who also plays
for the Montreal Barbarians.  That reminds me, any Eastern Canadian
players who are serious about rugby, should be playing from Sept/Oct to
April/May in BC and then returning for the summer league to their home
team.  They'll get a lot more national selection attention out here.
Direct them to Velox and we'll try to find them accomodation and work.

-------appended from Canadian Press report----------------

TOKYO (CP) -- Canada was pummelled by Hong Kong and New
Zealand on the opening day of the Japan Sevens rugby tournament
Saturday.

A young Canadian side lost 42-7 to Hong Kong in its opening match
with Andrew Hoffman of White Rock, B.C., scoring Canada's only
try. Victoria's Trevor Hammond converted.
New Zealand, one of the world's powerhouses, scored eight tries in
hammering Canada 50-0 in the second match.

[1]With no Ontario team in SuperLeague, I think they are on their way
already!.
Is there any URL with the SuperLeague fixtures posted?.  I got a copy
from [ironically!] Rugby Ontario but I'm not sure it is the finalised
one.

[2]Although the scores are currently painful, putting in as many
CCSD-age players is the only option open to us.  Since the advent of
ProRugby in the 5N we are getting no touring [Senior Club]sides
whatsoever.  With the 11 month NH/SH season we are not going to get the
Development tours either.
