So much for a widening gap between NH and SH.  Thank goodness the Boks got
this wake up call now and not during the 3N.

I don't know about that.  I think the Oz - England result showed
that the SH are actually beginning to close on the NH, although
with only Super (sic) 12 and 3N to practice on I think they're
probably already shaking in their boots about the RWC...

Yup Whales used their chances and showed the Boks how to play. Maybe
showed their hand a bit early for the World Cup though.

Good one Whales.

Chaps,

I was having a beer last night with a mate who works for the Beeb
(technical side, not scheduling)and mentioned to him that there was a
certain amount of pissed-off-ness in the ng about our inability to
watch Wales v S.A.

His reply was succinct.

Phone the WRU and ask why they didn't want it shown.

I asked him to explain.

Simple, really. International match at Millenium Stadium. Do we want
to cover it. Yes. DO the WRU want to pay for it. No.
They want it covered in Wales. So we'll show it in Wales. Besides
Wimbledon's on.

Fair enough, can anyone find out if the WRU didn't ask for national
coverage (presumably on the cost) ?

Cheers,

Paul C.

Whoops, sorry, I should have put this in the earlier post.

It's a matter of the type of coverage agreed in the contract,
apparently ;-)

The *Beeb* would be paying for it, yes, I can omly assume the money
they were offering wasn't great.

Original question stands though - 'what was the WRU's standpoint ?'

Want more money, or what ?

I'm confused by this thread.

Surely the WRU have a contract with the BBC (like the SRU). BBC Wales
shows the game and then its down to the BBC to decide when to show it
elsewhere in the UK.

As I understand it, Sky have no TV rights at Welsh or Scottish stadiums
so the BBC should be milking this. Instead, they wasted the opportunity
of even scheduled highlights and only showed some when rain interupted
Wimbledon!

No wonder there are severe questions about the BBC at the moment.

regards,

Brian
