This week was the first time that Official Timekeepers were being used.
They will signal 40 minutes with a hooter, and the referee will then
blow when the ball next goes dead. The clock should be stopped for
injuries, and allowed to run for up to 40 seconds after the kicker has
indicated that they are kicking for goal.
Leicester apparently lost their hooter and had to go and buy another
one.
At the Leicester game, despite the regular visits of the West Hartlepool
trainer on to the pitch, the game did not seem to be longer.
One potential problem with this, is the use of hooters by the crowd is
part of the Rugby atmosphere. However, if used wrongly, then it could
signal to the ref that the 40mins are up !
Leicester Match
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tigers : 3 Tries Aadel Kardooni (Scrum Half)
2 Tries Steve Hackney (Right Wing)
1 Try Neil Back (Flanker)
1 Drop Goal Jez Harris (Fly Half)
6 Conversions John Liley (Full Back)
1 Penalty John Liley (Full Back)
West H. : 2 Tries Tim Stimpson (Full Back)
1 Conversion Tim Stimpson (Full Back)
1 Penalty Tim Stimpson (Full Back)
Aadel Kardooni scored two of his tries from underneath Dean Richards
nose, as the superior Leicester Pack pushed the West pack over the line.
Steve Hackney ended the match with another contribution to Try of the
Month - to be renamed Steve's Try of the Month.
Tim Stimpson had a very impressive game at Full Back. Mike Catt's days
as England Full Back must be limited, and I would probably goes as far
as saying that the game against Scotland will be his last - unless Tim
picks up an injury.
