At a press conference called today (January 24) at 2.30pm New Zealand time,
the NZRFU confirmed that Jonah Lomu will be unavailable for all rugby for at
least the next 6 months.
Lomu has chronic kidney disease which was first diagnosed two years ago.
Doctors have been keeping a close eye on his condition and have noticed a
moderate deterioration over the last three months. They have decided that
"treatment is a necessary option" and Lomu is to undergo intensive treatment
over the next three months. Kidney specialists give him a 50% chance of
recovery, however Lomu says he is very positive about making a full recovery
and returning to rugby this season.
