To be fair this happened to some extent beforehand.
The super12 has really accelerated it.

Amazingly he couldn't get a game in this years super12.
Otago NPC reserves where picked ahead of him.

Perhaps the rule should be super12 coaches can't have coached the local
NPC teams :-)

The future is ours to create.

NZRFU needs to look hard at this sort of thing.
To their credit thay have got alot of things right.
Players like Paul Miller or Bevan Lectner should be asked how the system
could work better for them.

Yep, I recognise this.  But as Charles said, the S12 has accelerated the
migration of players to the richer unions *not* reduce it as was the
original intention.

Such a draft system is fine to spread the talent but it's far from
perfect.  You regularly see players holdout and demand to be traded
because they don't want to play for a lesser team.  Some players might not
want to move away from their home region to begin with.  The other problem
is that a draft doesn't compensate the province for developing the player
which is one advantage of the current transfer system.  There is no easy
solution I'm afraid.

>Paul

What about having a "province of origin format" wherby the union where the player
went to High school has first pick.

Then Otago wouldn't have any players!

Tony Brown, Corey Brown, Kupu Vanisi, Byron Kelleher, John Blaikie, Duncan Blaikie,
Kelvin Middleton, Joe McDonnel, Brett McCormack, Paul Miller, and I'm sure there are
others. How about if was based on which University players attended? :-)

Well, it would have to be 7s for a start, because there would be no
forwards.
