AB's Training

Just been to the All Blacks open training session at the Palmerston North
Showgrounds. There were around 4000-5000 people at the ground. I'm sure alot
of other sports played in NZ would give their right leg (and alot more) to
get a crowd of that size just to a game let alone a training run!

The session concentrated on speed and ball handling skills. Lomu looked as
if he was still getting over the minor (leg?) injury he got earlier in the
week opting to wear cross trainers unlike the rest of the squad who were in
boots and all. He did however take part in all the activities. Two players
who didn't however take full part were (shock horror) Kronfeld and Mehrtens.

I'm not sure what was wrong with Josh but he went off after 15mins or so.
Mehrtens lasted a little longer before leaving the field with what seemed to
be a slight leg injury. He returned 10mins later still favouring one of his
legs (can't remember which) by doing the ball boy duties for goal kickers
Brown, Wilson and Spencer.

Don't be to concerned though as both Kronfeld and Merts seemed quite happy
as they signed autographs after the training session with the rest of the
team. Speaking of autographs, there was a line of about 1000 kids after the
session!

Along with speed training John Hart oversaw a few passing drills with
Marshall and Kelleher. The squad also played a bit of touch rugby with Hart
acting as ref and taking ever opportunity to ping players for offside. It
was quite funny watching this game develop with the forwards out wide and
the backs doing the hard yards up the middle (something that seems to be
prevalent at most rugby practises!).

There was also lineout training for the forwards and the backs also
practised a few moves. Before getting on to the heady task of signing all
those autographs.

the Institute of Rugby at Massey instead of going up to Taupo for 4 days.
This says alot for the new institute which has just opened.

Cheers

Todays paper says that Josh (also) has an Achilles strain.
