de la Rosa - Points on Debut

Post by Brian Lawrenc » Tue, 09 Mar 1999 04:00:00

Pedro de la Rosa scored a point in his first Grand Prix, by no
means a unique achievement, but it is becoming more and
more rare. This is only the fifth occurrence in the last 10
years:

Johnny Herbert      4th  Brazil 1989       Benetton
Jean Alesi             4th  France 1989     Tyrrell
Eddie Irvine           6th  Japan 1993      Jordan
Jacques Villeneuve  2nd  Australia 1996  Williams

Interestingly all of these have now won races.

He's certainly in good company but, I think it may be hoping a little too
much to expect him to score any more points this year. I think, on average,
we only get one farcical race per year (in terms of attrition) and this year
its over and done with. (I hope so anyway, after such a long break without
F1, I was very much hoping to see some racing. Looks like I'll have to wait
until April now!)
