I think Webber will be shown to be less capable than say DC or
crashmaster Montoya.  Webber is pretty good but not as good as say
Kimi or Alonso.

I also think Michael Phelps will expose Ian Thorpe at the Olympics.

Agreed.

The same way Fisico's aura will vanish when he has a decent car.  He's good
but not "that good".  It's going to be a repeat of Ruben's story.

Bobby, do you have a problem with Aussies? You're not English are you? I
could probably understand your bitterness then, since Australia practically
thrashes England in just about every sport with the exception of Rugby. Now,
I should point out that I don't like Ian Thorpe. As a matter of fact, I
can't stand the ***. But I don't understand how you draw a comparison
between Thorpe and Webber... and I don't really understand what you mean by
the term expose. Normally, when you say someone will be exposed, it means
that that person was either a fraud, or all hype, or even just lucky. But
considering how many gold medals and world records Thorpe has had in the
past, I don't think that you could call him any of those things... gay? -
possibly, a ***er? - definately, but fraud, hype or lucky? - don't think
so. Come clean Bobby... what's your problem with the Aussies?

Really, what makes you think that Webber is not as good as DC or
Montoya or Kimi and Alonso. Is it because he allways finishes behind
these drivers in the race?? :O

I rather like Webber. At first i didnt think much of him but he has shown his
skill and like Fisi does deserve at least one go in a top team.

Very calm and down to earth fellow

Funny how you assume he must be English, and not a fellow antipodean.
Don't suppose you'd consider an apology appropriate now, would you?

In some ways you have a point. But I'm not sure if the tone of insinuating
mediocrity is entirely what you intended.

In any case ...

True, you can never tell if a violinist is good bad or brilliant until you
give them a great violin to play on. The instrument, at the higher levels,
does limit the instrumentalist. ( Although a virtuoso will still make a junk
violin sound better then it deservers to ).

Until a driver's in a top team with a top car and a top team mate you're
always in the area of assumption extrapolation and guesswork. If Webber gets
the Williams drive, and their 2005 car is a good one, and he has a top team
mate, then we'll see what he's got, or hasn't got, for sure.

I   THINK   he has the good stuff. Another Michael Schumacher as some have
called him ? Certainly that's way too far to go based on what's been seen
from him so far. But he isn't some wet behind the ears driver but has worked
his way up though the classes like the great drivers from the old school. No
express trip from F3s to F1s here. Years of hard work and solid results have
been the foundation. He sounds like he's got a head on his shoulders.
Doesn't appear to be full of himself. What else can you say ? I'd like to
see him get a turn at a top drive and show us what he's got.

Phillip

You're absolutely correct. An apology is appropriate.

...I'd like to take this opportunity to apologise to all the Brits I may
have offended by confusing them with a Kiwi :)

Why ? It's true, we do trash the Poms in just about everything. ;-p

Btw, it's hard to tell these days, but the posting host resolves to
qwest.net. That's in Colorado or Utah, the trace of the post also
includes maxwell.syr.edu early on, which you will find as one of the
hops of news generated in the US.
Phelps is also not whom i would expect a Kiwi to brag with. Mind you..
they haven't got a lot to brag with either. ;-)

I'll get me coat.. :)

Crikey! Give the bloke a chance, mate... let's wait and see how he
goes in a better car and see who his team mate is before we're jumping
to conclusions.

All we can say at this point is that he did well out of the box in
F3000 and has seen off 4/4 team mates in F1 so far...
